In spite of zero evidence regarding the exsitance of 'god', why do you believe in such a concept? What makes you so sure?
Personally, I believe that religion only serves to divide people based on their beliefs (ie Hindu, Muslim, Christian etc.), and is the cause of most of the conflicts throughout history.
What good has come from religion? I believe that religion was invented as a means to control people - be good and you'll go to heaven, but be bad and you'll be punished for eternity. And yet people from one religion feel its OK to attack people from another religion.
I am an Indian, born into a Hindu family and from a very young age, I never really understood religion. I always believe we are in control of our own lives. Life is what we make it.
What are your thoughts? And don't just say you have faith, please give me a reason.

In response to the 'intellegent design' reply, there is overwhelming evidence that supports evolution. All the way back to how life first started on the planet. Won't go into the details, but as an example, all of the organells in our bodies (mitochondria, ribosomes etc.) were once living independently (there is dated fossil evidence to prove this), they then slowly formed symbiotic relationships and became what we now call a cell (back then they would have been the first single celled organisms). From here multicelled organisms evolved. There is order in nature because everything evolved from basic building blocks through natural selection (if something didn't work properly, it died off).
In regards to Jesus, yes he did exist. But he was just a man, a 'saintly' man if you must, and he tried to preach others to be kind to one another. He never said to kill non-believers or that if one doesn't follow him, they'll ho to hell. The bible itself was written 200 years after his passing.

Someone said: 'Ironically, if the principles by which evolution is assumed to operate were true, man wouldn't need to develop this aspect (wondering about god) of his intellect.'
Well, it is this aspect, curiosity, that has helped man develop into what we are today. Otherwise we would still be living in jungles. We have developed the mental capacity to do this, whereas other animals haven't. This does not mean god exists.
Most of you guys are basically saying, well all this universe must have come from somewhere, so there must be a god. Thats the same as saying, well the ground I am standing on is flat, and the land is flat as far as I can see, so the whole world must be flat.
Thats where science and religion differ. You say, well you (the scientists) can't prove god doesn't exist, so he must exist.
Whereas we take the view, there is no evidence to support the existance of god, as gradually many things in our world are being scientifically explained, so there can't be a god.

i beleive in god, because i have seen so much evil and been through so much pain and suffering that there has to be a good to counterbalance it all out. if there isn't then what is the point of it all?

I am not a Hindu, at least not anymore, but I am an Indian. Personally I believe that the God of the Bible is the true God. I actually took the time out of my life to question religions and always found some kind of problem with all religions except with the Christians. When I inquired more about Christianity I found to be at peace and realized that I had finally found God.
Think about it. Krishna never died for you, all he did was sleep around. Jesus cared enough to die for you. That is something i can appreciate
If you really think that their there is a God, He will show Himself to you all you have to do is believe. If you dont think God exist He will not show Himself to you.

If you think there is zero evidence of GOD then no one can help you ... and certainly GOD won't either. Do you think you just came about accidentally when you mother and father copulated and that you were really nothing and then you came out as a helpless child who could not think, see, hear or remember. Now that you can see and hear and think you are going to tell the ONE that gave you these faculties to go to HELL ... well be prepared on the day of your death for a rude awakening when the Angels snatch your soul violently and make you enter the fire.
Peace be upon you.

God is not congined to religions .religions wer ecreted by mento unify people of a specific area of ethinic group in the beginning and and later spread by force to being moe people of different ethnic groups with a view to establish the ayuthority of the religons institutions over all the people. hinduism does nt belive in conversion and use of force .so do nmt mix up Hinduism her e.
Hinduism has served to establish peace and utiy amiong he people of this sub continent and helped them lead a life of piety and compassion.
Hinusuism is a great philosophy that is esswntailly scientific and the subtley of that p[hilosophy is nt not easy for many to understnd , becasue if is very scientific the real character of which has been proved only by the scientific researches of thge 21 st centuray.Still ther eis more in t that are yet to e understood by the modern scientists themselves .
I would like to point out one simple example here .
Thefirsat bookof Mosses Genesis which forms the beginning of the Bible says that god made the earth, the creatures and the human beings etc all at once within six days .Accordin gto them god made man of the Adult stage capable of procreation .But according to hinduism , it takes half a day of Brahmma which ois one Kalpa (a kalpa is 14 manvanthras .one manvantra is 71 chathur yugas and one chtur yuga is 4320000 years .) Bhagavad -gita says that
"At break of Brahma's day
all things emerge from unmanifest NATURE
when night falls , all sink
into unmanifest darkness" verse 18 of 8Th teachng .
When /arjuna askes krishna to show his he totality of god , krishna says that no one can see the totality of god .and so he would gie him a divine eye to see it .sosayng ,he shows him his VIAWA ROOPA" the image of the cosmos .he showed him hat the cosmos was god .All the Galaxies and all the universes and all that is in theuniverses is god ..the empty space that sustains all the galaxies and the universes is god .,so he refers togod as a" being and non -being". one might wonder how a noneing be god ?
One should know that the whole galxies are in the space that is vacuum and void , It is nothing .Onlyh because the space is nothing it is boundless and shape ;less .Only because the space is nothing all things , the galaxies and he stas and planets are able to exist in it and move freely wioth tremendous and be in a stat of free fal wiothout hitting each one another .without empty space nothing can exist .the scientists are yet to understnd the character of the empty space which Hinduism has understood even thousands of years ago.
the Hindu philosophy ois that the cosmos is god and that it is one grand beoing that created and sustains and destroys everythig for recycling - towards reincarnation. .this is the reason hat he Hindus see ?god in everything in the universe .They think that god od omnipresent as eerything isd the universe id part of /god .the God is one grand image made of zillions o pixels of which eeryting in this unierse is one.You ar eone of the pixels and I am also one among them.Nothing excepted . the bhagavad -gita al;so shows how he planets and stars fall into the super nova in the proces sof annihillation and resurrection of the universe .this is seen from the description of arh=juna of the sights he has in the Cosmic image of god .these descriptions show that the philosopy is highly scientific and natural and that ther eis nothing unreal of mythical or blind belief .
If god is the creator , sustiner , and annihilator , it is nature theQUALITY OF THE COSMOS .
your body and brain ar made of the elements and her compounds .It eht combination f the elements pure elements in certain ratio can have as much intelligennce as you and I have ,how much ontelligence shouild the entire qunatity of the elements found in this cosmos and combined in certain proportioin can make or have ? that is the cosmis intelligence .the intelligence of God .
god is not just a man alone . god is everything - nothing excepted .

The ability to assimilate, collate, discern, analyse, differentiate, emote, is what makes a human special. 'Hope' for a better tomorrow is what adds another dimension to this specialty. 'Humaneness'- thinking for your fellow humans- is another quality that is attributed to humans. These are as real as you want them to be. You want proof of God's existence? He is another realm of consciousness and we cannot even attempt to answer questions about his existence from our standpoint of universal, human consciousness, which is something else.
Because of duality thinking, an argument can be stretched on and on and still we will not arrive at the nub. Every scientist's research can only answer a certain amount of "why so's?" however deep he/she goes. The element of uncertainty exists in every situation in our consciousness. This element of uncertainty is the realm of 'God'. He can only be felt in the heart, which is HIs domain. Try as one might, He is not available for analysis, assessment and dissection. He is not available for people who use their head more then the heart. Hope and humaneness originate from the heart.
Would it not be wonderful to have a strong personality behind you when you tackle uncertainties in your life, advising and helping. If the answer is 'no' then the assumption goes that one knows everything and one does not need help. Most people need help and they turn to the strongest personality- indeed they create Him in their heads as the strongest. Hope then is strengthened and Humaneness flows out of one as Love. They are just abstract aspects of Him. Feeeel Him and do not try to Catch Him. he is a master at HIde and Seek.

I believe in Him because he has saved my life, because I can feel His presence, because He send His one and only son to die for our sins. When you have a pain in your mouth, because a tooth is hurting, can you see the pain?? no. But you know is there, because you can feel it. How can you tell weather the apple I am eating is sweet or is not?? Then don't you dare say anything bad about God, because you have not taste what is like to live in His love. God Bless you.

Of all the creatures we see around us, man is the only part of the creation that can even address the subject of meaning, worship God and can express a belief in life after death. Unlike animals, humans can conceive of eternity and immortality.
Why are we different? Could it be that our faculty of imagining the future, hoping for life beyond our temporal hour, was thoughtfully placed within us by a Creator who Himself has assigned an eternal purpose for humans?
Some 3,000 years ago wise King Solomon wrote that God "has put eternity in [men's] hearts" (Ecclesiastes 3:11). God gave us the longing to ask the questions, but not the ability to know the answers unless we come to sincerely seek and rely on Him.
If we choose not to believe that God created the universe, then we must believe that all hope in the future and desire for meaning beyond our physical life are futile. Ironically, if the principles by which evolution is assumed to operate were true, man wouldn't need to develop this aspect of his intellect.
But the fact is that we do think about it.
Humans are God's creation. He had His reasons for putting us here. Our worth is not in ourselves but that God created us in His image. It is God who gives value to human life.
The problem is that, since we have removed God from consideration, we have been desperately searching elsewhere to try to find self-worth. We have developed psychologies that emphasize our self-importance. A virtual priesthood of psychologists tells us we can rise above the problems we have created for ourselves by pulling ourselves up by our own bootstraps.
Most of our system of psychology was designed to accommodate a godless view of creation. It rejects the concept that our worth comes from a Creator who assigned a purpose to man before He created any of us.
The moral principles of God are embodied in the laws He gave man. Contrary to the predominantly secular views of psychology, how we should live should not be determined by how our actions make us feel. God's laws were meant to work for man's own good. When we follow them, they lead not only to happiness and fulfillment in this life, but they give us a picture of what God Himself is all about. God's law is, in a sense, what He is. His laws reflect His character and nature.
Of all the creation, God gave us alone the ability to choose whether we will live by His laws or by whatever values we assign to ourselves for our own satisfaction. God's laws are not mere duties, but He designed us so we will become most happy, satisfied and fulfilled by doing what He says. Since God made us, He knows what is best for us. He gives us instructions that will benefit us.
Man is not a mere puppet in God's hands. We have the choice of whether to do what He says or not (Deuteronomy 30:19). We can either recognize Him as the Creator and Lawgiver of the cosmos, or we can deny that He exists. We can choose to live a meaningless life or a life with purpose.

I believe in God, I have never seen him but I know he is there, when i need his help, I know because i have personal proof.
Just you try speaking to him and you will find out the truth.
That's if you know how to speak to God that is.

I believe in my religion because I just can't think of men ( the disciples) dieing for something that
was all a lie -- Jesus
I believe because of all the things that happened in my life that could not have happened w/ out
God/Jesus being part of it , it's just to far out there
to have happened by coincidence
I believe because why would Jesus die on the cross for nothing ? !
