Initially I could not understand the meaning of Shakta and then I found it - It means "One who worships Shakti." The first thing came to my memory is Adi Parasakthi Temple and Adigalar of Mel Maruvathur Sakhthi Peetam Near Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

The history and connected things of this Shakta -

In the year 1966, during a cyclonic storm at Melmarvathur, a neem tree secreting sweet medicinal milk uprooted to reveal the SWAYAMBU (an oval stone- like emanation). The power above revealed itself in the form of the Swayambu and proclaimed that It had transmigrated into HIS HOLINESS BANGARU ADIGALAR and would give Oracles through him to save the World.

The abode of sGoddess Adhiparasakthi has been named as ARULMIGU ADHIPARASAKTHI SIDDHAR PEETAM. This Peedam is situated at Melmaruvathur, 92 km south of Madras in Kanchipuram District of
Tamil Nadu, India.
The Abode of Saints – Jeeva Samadhi:

It is believed that the saints even after leaving their human bodies, continue to live in the ethereal world to fulfil unfinished objectives for the peace of mankind. This state is called Jeeva Samadhi.

Melmaruvathur is considered to be the abode of 21 SAINTS IN JEEVA SAMADHI, who confer all their powers to the greatness of the Siddhar Peetam.

His Holiness Arulthiru Bangaru Adigalar:
Born on March 3rd, 1942 at Melmaruvathur village to Shri Gopala Naicker and Meenakshi ammal, His Holiness Adigalar is believed to be an AVATAR and the incarnation of the Supreme power- ADHIPARASAKTHI.

His Holiness’ Oracles and Miracles attract millions of devotees from all over the world who come to seek his blessings. Clad in a simple white shirt and a red dhoti sans all ornaments of a sanyasi, sadhu or Godman. He is a personification of Simplicity. His Holiness’ profound qualities of love, compassion and scarifies have led to His devotees calling HIM- ‘AMMA’ – Mother in the Tamil Language.

The moving spirit behind all activities of the Adhiparasakthi Movement, His Holiness stands out distinctively unique well above all other Gurus in –

- Elavating Women to a very respectable status in society by allowing them into the sanctum sanctorum to perform pujas and take an active part in Spiritual activities- breaking the taboos that came into being during the medieval years.

- Blending Spiritualism and Social Services together to redeem us from our sins to build a better tomorrow.

- Living in matrimony, Setting an example of practicing Spiritualism while leading total family life. -

Mere worshipping the Femenine aspect of God(Sakthi) or building a Temple for Devi in it self dos not constitute Saaktham .Saaktham is a separate Madham(sub-division of Hindu religion) developed sri Aadhi Sankara Acharya like the other five Madhams-Gaanapathayam, Kaumaaram, Saivam, Vaishnavam, Souram . So he is called Shanmadha Sthaapanaachaarya.. Panca Dasakshri(15 letters)-Soubhaagya Panca Dasaakshari with 3 Hrillekaas),Baala, sri Chakram/Meru Upaasana,Nava Aavararanam all this constitutes Saaktham. You can see sri Sankara Acarya's verses in Soundarya Lahari(a)"siva, sakthihi, kaamaha, sithirathi-----"(indirectly indicating the 15 letters) (b)"Smaram Yonim Lakshmeem-----

Some 400 –500 years before Sri.Muthuswami deekshidar was a great Saaktha in South India. In his Nava Aavarana Kritis on Kamalaambika you can see the essence of Saaktham as codified by sri.Aadhi Sankara.

Today the only person who knows about the intricacies of Saaktham is sri-La-Sri. Bhaarathi Theertha Swami ,Sankaraachaarya of Dakshinaamnaaya Saaradha Peetam,SRINGERI.
