If you are an atheist, then thanking any divine entitiy is not consistant with your beliefs...if that is really what you believe. Keep reading, maybe you'll someday see that you cannot prove a negative. Ever hear of Schroder's Cat? It's a scientific principal that is basically this: You have a perfectly healthy cat, you lock in an airtight box of solid steel that weighs 500 lbs. You cannot see inside the box, You cannot hear inside the box, the box is too heavy to pick up and really the only reason you even know that the cat is in there is because you put it in there. It's only been in there for 10 seconds.
So I ask you, is it still alive?
Answer: Both.
The cat is for all intents and purposes both alive and dead. We have no data to prove either. We cannot hear or see the cat or shake the box to determine if it's even in there. There is enough air for it to live for several minutes. But at the moment the question is asked you cannot "know" its alive, because you cannot prove it. But you also cannot prove its dead either. So it's both.
So do you believe in god? A good answer might be I have insufficient data to accurately determine the correct answer.

why are you an atheist? it seems like a lose lose situation to me. besides it doesnt make sense. Atheists believe in the big bang theory right? That means they believe that there was a big explosion and all these tiny little atoms fit together in exactly such a way to create the world and the universe and the people and animals in it. Do you know how complex the human body is? If I had all the parts that make up a watch and I put them all in a box (all the little screws, the face of the clock, the hands of the clock, the wrist band, and all the little intricate pieces that make the clock tick on the inside) and i shook it up, no matter how long i shook the box for, even if i shook it for a million years, there is no way that all of those pieces would fall exactly where they needed to go to assemble a perfect watch. A human is far more complex than a watch, and the universe is countless times more intricate. Atheists are saying that there was no creator and so all of this just coincidentally fell into place. Sorry, thats not a very good argument to me. Feel free to comment back with your own thoughts.

The Romans, since they created the calendar we use today.
Seriously, since you've decided to be an atheist, to what else do you have left to submit your pledges of thanksgiving? The flowers, maybe? But they don't care it's Friday and why would you thank them for it anyway? So it looks like you're stuck with 'the passage of time and the rotation of the earth' ;)

Dood! Atheism isn't a prison! I here by grant thee the holy and inalienable right to thank any inviable personage your little heart desires it's Friday! I personally enjoy thanking the flying spaghetti monster for Fridays, and cursing the moon cheese man for Mondays!
Live free, or die hard! wait... that slogan is taken... crap!

Biblically it's no longer TGIF, not in 2007AD;
For the 3rd day = 7th day = the last day now.
You're simple-y another law of law vs law,
wanting to be right to make others wrong;
which is foolish if we all are one: globe-all.
Bible says: You too can bend over,
dble kiss yer divided @ss bye bye.
If any man be ignorant, let HIM be ignorant.
It won't change the end that is already written:
(not to mention that AD-->only goes one way)
The grace(only) of our Lord J->C with you->all. Amen.

Of course not! The whole TGIF thing is for all of us working people who are living for the weekend! The weekly grind is coming to an end and tonight we can let loose and savor the thought of two whole days completely our own . . . unless you have kids! ;)
