Well bengronfors is wrong, you can take a 'print screen' screenshot of video. Perhaps in some rubbish media player he has or some crappy video, he can't, but most of the time you can.
Anyway, what you need to do is tap the Print Screen (sometimes PrntScrn or something similar) key on your keyboard (located at top right, to the left of Scroll Lock) at the right moment in your video. Then open Paint from Start Menu>All Programs>Accessories and go to Edit>Paste. Then you can save it, edit it, or do whatever you want to do.

Free solution ? OK, it's your Print Screen on your keyboard and a Paint program to paste the captured screen into it and cut off the edges.
A Good one but not a free solution is Win DVD, it had a button to push to capture the screen being displayed and saves it to your hard disk as well.
Beware, that some players will not let you capture their display via the Print Screen button, something about copyrights and what have you ...
The choice is yours... :-)

I know you've had several answers already, but I have found that if you do take a screenprint, and want to increase size without blurring at all, it is an easy matter to put it into, say, Publisher and save as a jpeg. Then you should be able to resize without problems. I do this sometimes when I am designing leaflets in, say, A4 size and want same content for A5 flyer. I save as jpeg and then reduce or even increase without problem because all content within the jpeg is resized without problem.

For taking screenshots, I personally just use the print screen button (or alt + print screen for just that window). Could you be more specific if you want it for a certain purpose (i.e. take screenshots constantly between set intervals couldnt be done using print screen :))

You can just press the Print Screen key on your keyboard. That will copy the current image on your monitor into the clipboard. Then, just open a graphic editing program (Paint, Photoshop, etc.) and paste.
