Extra 1kg is just an exanple, could have said 10kg. Trying to understand exactly how much extra luggage weight affects aircraft fuel consumption and hence costs. Knowing this we will have an idea how much the airlines are ripping us off with their charges for extra luggage weight.
My interest is mainly with longhaul aircraft such as Boeing 747s or Airbus A340s.
Thank you for all the answers so far but just need a little more info!

1kg of weight is about 2lbs. It's too minuscule to calculate.

1 kg of weight would not make any difference. Before one engine completed spooling up the one kg would be gone and then some.
