Well...I would say this: Go up to her talk to her for a bit about something that she likes or that you do. After your done talking ask her. Just say: "Would you like to go out sometime?" DON'T SAY ANY PICK-UP LINES!!! Most girls hate them, especially ones that are really corny. Like just act normal, dont get nervous...It's just a girl. So just talk to her for a bit before you ask her. Dont worry if she says no, maybe get a group of people and then ask her if she would like to go out with a group like to a movie or something in a group. That way your with her but you might not be as nervous!

Say: "How would you like to go with me to: (movie, dance, pizza, rollerskating, surfing, walking, running, shopping for a new sweater, etc. ) just be friendly, and ask for advice, or that you would like her company for a snack or coffee, or juice or to shop for a gift for your mom. There are a million reasons to ask a person to spend some time with you. Ask what she thinks about a book you've seen her reading, or what color that beautiful lipstick is called, or how many freckles she has, or anything. Just be nice and friendly.

Have a specific date planned like dinner at a certain restaurant or lunch somewhere. And just ask her if she wants to do that.

do your homework, find out what interest she has, things that she likes. I for one love naval ships, light house and send a day with a man who did his home work and drove along the coast one day and stopped at every lighthouse. great day same with naval ship. Find out the kind of music, buy concert tickets, her favorite places, beach, hiking and pack a lunch of her favorite foods. and always remember, a women loves when a man invites her to dinner and actually cooks it. do your home work with out her knowing.

yes be yourself... humour is good and compliments are but make sure they are natural and that you mean them!
get into a conversation about something you have in common and then ask her out to something related to it. Like a film you both want to see or something like that.

Don't ask infront of other people....I've been asked many times if I would go out with somebody but infront of a lot of people and I felt uncomfortable saying yes and so I said no....but if they would have asked me privatly then my answer would have been different......so please don't make the same mistake they did and get rejected....ASK IN PRIVATE

if you were really trying to be yourself, you wouldn't go through all of that change.
Maybe just the braces.
