The Bible clearly states that 'war is hell'. So when you say you support Bush's Oil war, you are actually saying "I support Hell".

So, in the US, we have a situation where our churches support War and Hell and Satan, right?

How can you reconcile this?

BARANBANGO

Are you trying to say that war is consistent with Christian values? Christ demanded that we love our enemies. How is killing people loving them. Enlighten me please.

1) The Bible does not say that "War is Hell".
That was Civil War General William T. Sherman

2) What makes you think that all "Fundies" support "Bush's
War"?

3) War is a prerogative of Governments. In the Bible, God
sometimes commanded nations to go to war. Not all war
is "immoral". World War II would be a good example
of a war that was necessary. God has reserved the
"sword" (war or capitol punishment) for Governmental use.

4) All killing is not "murder". The Commandment is, "Thou
Shalt Not Murder", NOT "Thou Shalt Not Kill".

5) When you say, "Bush's Oil War", you are making a
political judgment that you cannot possible have
information about. I do not know President Bush's
heart, and neither do you.

6) Lets leave Politics out of the R&S section. O.K.?

So far the answers you have gotten are the typical christian answers. If president Bush has been a great president why is it that even his own party the republicans are not supporting him any more?

I may not be a christian but i must answer this. Christians can't reconcile this because they don't follow the bible to begin with. The bible clearly states that "Judge not" and that IS in the bible. "Judge not so that ye shall not be judged" and yet christians are the ones that will bring a sinner to Jesus saying they need to be put to death and Jesus said it once and he'll say it again "Those without sin cast the first stone" These same people support a war that has disheartened our troops and made the other countries not like us much. The president has closed our borders to countries that were once friends i.e. Canada. All in the name of fighting terror. These people would sacrifice our freedoms in the name of fighting freedom. a paradox don't you think? The very things the founding fathers of this country fought for are being taken away. The founding fathers fought for the right to believe and worship the way they want to believe, they fought for the right to disagree and speak against our leader. They fought for the right to bear arms. They fought for freedom. Now if you aren't christian you might as well not be part of this country, we can't speak bad about this country or it's president because it's "unpatriotic" They even want to take away our guns and arms. This country has become the very thing George Washington and all the other founding fathers fought against. The constitution might as well be declared void. Our independence day is coming up. Most people think its a time for fireworks and fun. They forget the real reason why we have the 4th of July. Freedom is the right of all sentient beings but ask yourself this are we (the USA) truely free?

I have to agree with "baronbago", where is that written in the Bible?
Although I have never even been remotely involved in a war, from all I have heard from those who have, I would have to say that the statement sounds accurate.
I would also agree with the other answerer and say that it is a metaphor, like many others in the Bible.
I don't know about all churches, but for myself, we have a right to defend ourselves.

I think President Harry Truman said "war is hell." (But I could be wrong. It may be another president or general.) That is not in the Bible-not in the New Testament I know.

"The Bible clearly states that 'war is hell'."

Okay, I suppose I could be wrong, but I think you just made that up, just like these other folks made up this "it's a war to fight terrorism" nonsense.

How about we make at least a little effort to be honest, folks? If you're going to quote someone, make sure they really said it. And for christ's sake, give up that "Bush is a good president" and "this is a war on terrorism" and "this is a war for oil" nonsense.

This isn't the first time there has been a contradiction of propaganda. The churches supported many other "hells" to ensure the preservation and expansion of capitalism. After all they go hand in hand.

BTW - it's hard to defend a country when your not even in it.

Then I suppose Hitler was defending Germany when he invaded Poland?

We don't support war. We support the troops. Bush has made his decision. There is nothing we can do about it. Since they are there, why not give them support to keep fighting? If they give up it will be certain death. We didn't cause the war. We can't stop the war. All we can do is send them love and support. They need to know that they are backed by the country. It boosts morale.

Fancy this: you are about as learned in the Word of God as a grapefruit.

War is a sad necessity at times; as far as Mr. Bush goes,
do you remember the upset of 9/11, or were you still in diapers? Well, think about this: we have not been attacked since then on American soil. Why? Because Mr. Bush is doing what he promised to do: to protect this Nation at any and all cost. He did not promise to make you like him as a person, he did not promise to tend to your every little whim, but he did promise protection of this Nation. He is doing that, and there is not one person on Earth that can deny that, since we are not blown to hell again.

I suppose you will be happy when the democrats get into
the White House? They believe in speaking kindly words to the terrorists, perhaps serve tea? We'll get attacked within
six months of them taking the White House. Are you so dim that you cannot see why they hate Bush so much? They cannot get passed him - he's a pain in their asses.
In fact, they are so frustrated, that they had to come up with a different method at destroying America. Have you heard the cute little motto they came up with?
"Islam: the religion of peace".
They are using this because of people just like you, who are so dim and so tired of the war in Iraq that they are able to
sway you over with a cute motto that will make you think they
want you to be their brothers and sisters in love and peace

You don't even know when you are being flim-flammed, do you? I support Mr. Bush because my little boy can still walk to the corner store without my worry that his little body will be blown up into ten different directions. I support Mr. Bush because I believe in protecting the Holy City of Jerusalem.
I support Mr. Bush because he doesn't take any crap off anyone and doesn't act like anyone's "patsie".
Do you want to fight terrorism over there, or would you rather do it here? How nice would that be? Is that what you prefer?

You open your post as if you have a logical position. You have no logic in you at all. Nobody "supports" or desires war.
Nobody who is Christian supports "hell". Nobody who is a Christian supports Satan.

People who act like you do are an insult to all those men who fought and died on battlegrounds in wwi, wwii, the Korean war, Vietnam. You make them a mockery. During WWII
if the family members of soldiers paraded around with signs and boo hoos about deaths, and publically insulted the President of the United States for all other Countries to hear,
they would be so ashamed of their families that they probably would not have returned back to their homes after their term
was over (if they lived).
How can you call yourself an American and then publically
display insult and ridicule for our President? Someone posted just yesterday from Europe stating that the World is listening to people just like you as they insult Mr. Bush, and he said as a result of you hanging out America's dirty laundry, you have made us the laughing stock of the World.
Why would you choose to do something that stupid?
Don't you understand that people all around the world are listening to these things, and when they hear them, they know this is the time to use the old "divide and conquer" method to bring us down? The strength of America has always been its
people - that no matter what the situation is, we all have one thing in common: We are Americans, and we are strongest when we stick together.

You don't deserve your citizenship (if you even have it at all).
If you don't like America, you are free to go at anytime you wish. Perhaps Iran would be more "fair" and "just" in your eyes. I'm sure they would never consider a bad old war.
I'm sure you would be free to whine about all those things you think aren't right. I bet you can walk right up to their leaders
and point that little finger at them and say "how can you reconcile this?". You could join up with the Muslims and enjoy the "religion of peace".
At worst, you would only have to give up one or two kids to the explosives strapped onto them - hey, you could always have more kids, right?

You have alot of silly complaints and just love to whine and
moan about everything; grow up and understand that there are times when war is necessary - it doesn't make it right or fun or desirable. Nobody wants good people to die. But unless you want to wake up to this Nation being blown to hell, you better start realizing that there are groups out there that are just waiting for the right opportuntiy to take us out.
And when they do, they are not gonna give you any brownie points for saying you weren't supportive of Iraq, either. They do not care whether you support it or not - if you are an American, you are their target, period. All you are accomplishing is making yourself look ignorant, and making this Country look even more divided than it is. You are an idiot who is playing right into their hands.

You couldn't reconcile yourself out of a paper bag.
