Ear piercings yes..anything else visible..no. But most hospitals do allow you to use spacers, those clear things that keep the whole open. As far as the tats go again as long as they aren't visible, that is fine.

I was just in the hospital ER room last month and the nurse that took care of e had tatyoos, covered both of her arms, me and mom are asian and we just thought wow that was the first time we saw a nurse with tattoos all over her arms, because we didnt know it was ok for tattoos in this work field, but to me its ok doesnt matter to me, what matters is their heart, but piercing i think the nurses should look decent for the patients, not too much, when there feeling bad or sick, so i guess its ok, if not they will tell u like any work place,

As a nursing student and Nurse Tech working in the hospital, I have earrings and tattoos. I also work with nurses that have them and there seems to no problem. That could be a New Orleans things, though.

My ex had her ears peirced, but she never got any gripes about that (she was a lab tech though), her nose ring was kinda looked at as odd. As for tatoos, it differs from hospital to hospital. I've seen people heavily tatooed at places and have heard of people rejected coz of em. I dont think a tattooless body is a requirement but to keep a professional atmosphere they are discouraged. Seriously do you really think that an 80 year old gramndma will feel comfortable being wheeled around by a guy who looks like hes part of the "Hells Angels" (The biker gang)?

Most nurses have their ears pierced, I don't know about other piercings tho. And what can tattoos do to hurt the patients?

Yes. Plenty of people have them before they even start the program. If they didn't allow it, not many people would qualify for the job. I'm not sure if they will let you keep eye, nose or lip rings in during work hours though. I imagine that it's up to the discretion of each individual employer.

Any hospital I have been in makes them remove the piercing "jewelry" and cover up the tattoos but that may be a state to state thing.

In the hospital I work in earrings are the only allowable piercings and all but the very tiny tattoos are taboo and must be covered.

different hospitals have different policies regarding tattoos. i work at a hospital and i don't know any nurses with visible tattoos but i know a few emts and paramedics that work in the hospital that have visible tattoos. the best thing do to is check with hr and see what the policy outlines.
