combat this? I am for the war over there, but it seems like its been impossible to stop. I am sure, or I would hope, that our strategies have evolved and changed constantly to fight this type of cowardly enemy. But apperently nothing is working so far. What if anything do you think could be done to take on this situation? I do not want to get political here. If you want to talk politics and what not go somewhere else.

Fancy That - For your information, I just got out of the service in May this year after being in for 10 years. You dont know what Ive done or contributed to in my time in the service. So keep your trap shut and dont call me HONEY. Yes I support the war. The main reason is this- these lunatic bastards are using their twisted religion to preach and commit hate and killings of anyone who does not believe what they do. They vow to kill us and vow to kill all who do not convert to Islam. 2 car bombs today found in London. The fact is, we are most likely not going to stop every attack. Soon or later, they will try and attack the US again. Hopefully they fail. In the mean time, we need to do what we need to do. That is take the fight to many of them who reside in Iraq, control our borders, and knock some sense into fools like you. Ive been in the military and of course know many from all branches of service. Many support the fight and are ashamed of people like you.

JCARLP - I agree 100 percent. The war has been politicized like crazy as most people know. And even more than most people know. I believe are strategies are limited due to political nonsense.

Well, as someone who's been there, done that, I can tell you that we lost the upper hand after the first year. To get it back will be difficult- not impossible, but difficult.

One of the biggest problems is what someone earlier mentioned- too much politics, too many reporters, not enough control by the military.

Another problem is complacency by the troops. When my unit was replaced by an active duty unit (I am ANG), they didn't listen to us and follow what we had been doing, and they lost not only a lot of ground we had taken, but also in the two weeks we were transitioning, they lost almost as many men as we did in a year ( we lost 17, they lost 11 in two weeks).

This is not the norm for all active Army units, but unfortunatly, it is all too common.

So, I guess the long and short of it is I agree with the person who said let the military run the war and keep those who don't belong out.

ADDED:

Dizzead:

You are missinformed of who is doing the fighting there. Most of the insurgents are from Jordan, Siria,Iran and Saudi Arabia. Most of the Iraqis are happy to have our presence, but would like there own government- a democracy where they vote freely for their choice of leaders. The insurgents want to put another Hussein in control.

I have been there and "walked in ther shoes" twice in 13 years. How many times have you been there??????

Right Place, Right People, Right Strategy, Too Little, Too Late. We screwed the pooch on this one and I don't ever see us recapturing the momentum or controlling the direction of events. Its almost as if we missed our chance - but nobody wants to admit in the Bush Administration.
In some ways this is worse than Vietnam.
At this point, we have no good options, and a lot of Iraqis hate us. We are going to end up leaving, Its just a matter of time, blood, lives, money, and our standing and stature at home and abroad. Now, was it WORTH it ?
As for turning this thing around, I don't think we have to will to do what it would take to make that happen.
Even Bush's own party is fragmenting over this issue.

What if Iraq or anyone, invaded the USA and killed off our military? Not likley, but what if?

Do u really believe the American public would just bow down to the new government? HELL NO!!

Granted, our method of resistance would'nt include suicide bombings, but.... we would put our lives on the line to combat the occupier.

Guerilla War is the most difficult war to fight. These people are not uniformed. They have no traces to factions or groups. These people are like your neighbors... Quiet, kept to themselves, or the nicest people etc... But they have initiative, to attack without warning or mercy.

I know its unpopular to say, but try walking a mile in " THOSE " people's shoes. Because you know darn well, if another nation invaded and occupied the US, WE would be the terrorists, running amok and blowing up their sh*t.

No politics, just warfare. Simply stated, our enemies are using a delivery method that works. These small ordinance packs don't need a propulsion system, such as a howitzer. They don't require precision pinpoint accuracy. It is not necessarily cowardly. It is the realization that they'd stand NO chance in "traditional" warfare with the technological advantages that we possess. We used to call it STONE AGE vs SPACE AGE.

hi.Anti-personal devices have been around a long time. One of the worst is called a "bouncing betty".The troops over there are committed to a lasting peace but let the military do its job.Politicians quite often prevent the military from doing just that.then there are rules of engagement. You cant fire unless your fired upon.I believe the military are just keeping the peace now. They cant leave ,for if they do a civil war would erupt and the goal would be to capture the oil fields. Now is the time for United Nations to arriveBut combat troops must be held in reserve, just in case.A battalion in reserve would be essential to protect any UN enforcement.

This is a great question. I wish I had an answer. All I can say is. I would rather we fight the terrorist over there rather than here. I fear the day will come that our soldiers will be patrolling our streets and the terrorist will be their crimes of terror here. I have a son in the army and he is scheduled to go to Iraq in November for 18 months. I pray for his safty everyday and the saftey of all the other soilders fighting this war.

These questions make me laugh - you state cowardly roadside bombs.

Now think about what you have said and replace the words roadside bombs with bunker buster bombs, or cruise missiles or tank shells, or mortar fire. Are these the weapons of the brave. Does it take bravery to fly a stealth bomber over open skies with no air or ground threat and drop that 2000lb bomb?

Aside from that you can't do anything about these bombs.

You can't because you are not fighting an army who is wearing a uniform, you are fighting angry citizens who are trying to liberate their country from a foreign army. We have done all we can and now it is time to leave or we will be facing another Vietnam.

the soldiers should call back, they are fighting others battle for nothing. The enemies and the peoples over there who are trying to pretend soldiers companions are same. there is no argument to stay there and spent billions of dollars for nothing. This amount should spent for the betterment of our peoples not for donations to other nations.
