Please do not ask a "straw-man" question.
Christians (Evangelical) do not have ANYTHING against Roman Catholics.
It is certain Roman Catholic Doctrines that we have "something against".
So if we disagree with certain Doctrines, please to NOT refer to it as "Catholic Bashing".
Maybe, "Doctrine Bashing" would be more accurate. lol
My own in-laws are strong Roman Catholics, and sometimes even they can't see the difference.
Its not about the "people". It's about what we consider to be unbiblical teachings.
I have known Roman Catholics whom I would consider Christians, in spite of their Roman Catholicism. And I have known "Evangelical" professing christians that I WOULDN'T consider to be real Christians. (People who claimed a "conversion" experience years ago, but have NEVER exhibited ANY kind of a life-change, or ever shown any "fruit" at all.)
So, Christians (real ones) come in all kinds of "denominational" shapes and sizes. (except for cults like the JW's & Mormons, who both deny Essiential Christian Doctrine)
Besides, the Lord knows who are HIS.

I don't know why people don't like catholics (why should anyone?), but I know protestants disagree with some of the catholic ideals.
For instance, the are too male dominated. They act as an interceedent between God and His children (why do we really need an institution in the middle?). Also, they are very ritualized. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't appeal to everyone. The Catholic church also has a pretty tainted past (but then what religon doesn't).
I don't have a problems with catholics and I don't have any more problems with catholic ideology than I do any other religon. Take the best and leave the rest.

The following have been given to me as reasons.
A) No matter what else they try to say about us, ALL Protestant denominations HAVE to trace their origins back through the Catholic Church to get to Christ. This they find less than pleasing.
B) Many people have the mistaken idea that we're some sort of gigantic monolithic block of organic robots all marching to the beat of the Pope's drum.
C) Simple envy that Catholics have a world-wide parish of believers that number more than a billion and most non-Catholics, especially Protestants, would give their right arms to have that many believers to give their stances on faith better credence.
D) Too many preachers of the past have spent their careers vilifying the Church instead of praising the Christ Who founded it. When you're raised to hate it can be difficult to change your beliefs in adulthood.
E) Then there are the Catholics themselves who for any number of reasons have broken with the Church. Like ex-smokers they cannot vilify enough their former allegiance. I have yet to find one who could give me a sound, rational logical reason for this hate. Most of it is due to psychological and/or physical abuse from others while they were children. They blame the Faith rather than the sinners who comprise its membership.
F) hope this helped.

Personally, I have to disagree with some of the positions taken by the Catholic church. However, I've always found that Catholic people were generally decent folks that it was fairly easy to get along with. They are almost always more fun, more open minded, and less judgemental than evangelicals. They are also much less likely to try to force their religious beliefs on you than a lot of other religious people, (at least that's true for the laity). I've also found that a lot of Catholics disagree with some of the positions taken by their church.

I am curious as to why you think people don't like Catholics? I like or dislike a person not because of their religion, but because of the kind of person they are.I think that people are upset by the news coverage of the priests that molest children, but the Catholics didn't make them do that, it was their own sinful choice, also people of all religions have done horrible things like that, it isn't the religion, it is the bad person doing them. I am not Catholic because I have a direct line to God through Jesus, and do not need a priest (man) to forgive my sins, only God is my judge and forgiveness was given to me through Jesus dying on the cross for me. And yes I believe Catholics will go to heaven, as with any other religion, as long as you accept Jesus as your Savior, Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Light, no man comes unto the Father but by Him.

not that people do not like catholics as
people, I think that what gets in the way is how religions are different & people that are not
catholics can't understand why catholics do certain things that just don't make sence to other religions
in the end we should all love oneanother, no matter what differences we have , take care

Most people don't understand what Catholicism really teaches, and instead believe crazy lies. Here is a user who thinks Catholics believe Mary was conceived by the Holy Ghost:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkvX25wAaRCoGLyWSdPWWt7ty6IX?qid=20070628230929AAKxQsg&show=7#profile-info-34ff19f31278c92686d2a0ac876bfd37aa
I used to believe the nonsense myself (Catholics worship statues, Catholics worship Mary, etc.) but when I really began studying Catholicism, I found out it wasn't true, and I ended up converting because what Catholicism REALLY teaches makes so much sense.
EDIT:
Yet another example of lies -- someone claimed that Catholics "govern large parts of Africa, denying them contraception - millions will die from STDs like AIDS."
What a joke! The Catholic Church can't even prevent condoms from being sold right outside the walls of the Vatican (scroll down to see the photo of a condom machine in Rome):

Oh, no.
We LOVE Catholics (most of them, anyway).
It's CatholicISM we don't like. Gary Willis, a recovering seminarian, wrote a book a while ago entitled "Papal Sins." It accurately recounts the systematic sin that is the Roman hierarchy, and the sins start with lying.
The Roman Catholic Church is the author of so many lies, it's hard to find a starting place. Moreover, those of us who jump into the deep end of the pool (wear the cassock, get the haircut, et c.) are trained about keeping the "secrets," reinforcing that command with Matthew 7:6, reminding us that if we disclosed the dirty little secrets (such as the fact that nobody takes Roman Catholic dogma seriously any longer but we teach it anyway because it keeps the collection plate full) we're all going to be out of jobs.
In other words, the RCC is rotten to the core. Small wonder that they rape little boys.
Look, it's a bunch of old queers who practice pederasty as a religious ritual. You have to be at the seminary to realize that there's no shortage of dessemination at the seminary, and that's literally true. Meanwhile, Roman Catholic priests are educated enough to know what liars they are, and how destructive it is to be a liar. Again, no wonder they rape, steal and lie.
Thomas Jefferson said it best (it's inscribed around the rotunda of his memorial):
I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every from of tyranny over the mind of man.
This is a cryptic remark, but to those who understand Jefferson and the context, it is patently an indictment of the Roman Catholic Church, which a mere 250 years earlier (remember, the world did not change as quickly back then as it does today, and while 250 years is a long time by today's standards, Bloody Mary was part of every Englishman's conscious thinking in 1776) burned many people of substance because they did not proclaim the Real Presence.
Hell's bells, ask 100 Romans today what they think about the Real Presence and you'll get 99 dumbfounded stares and one slightly-bemused smile.
That's why I am proud to have transformed from lapsed Catholic to Protestant. And when my Roman friends and relatives ask what I am protesting against, I remind them of Jefferson's oath and Bloody Mary's suppression of freedom of thought. I'm protesting against the obscenity that is the Roman Catholic Church.
I brought lots of people to Jesus that way, and I'm proud of it.

I think a lot of it comes down to ignorance. I've heard people say things about Catholics that tells me they've never set foot in a Catholic church. Catholics don't worship statues, they don't pray to Mary or the saints, they don't "take their orders" from Rome ... but I can say this stuff over and over, and people who have their minds made up won't care.
Mind you, I'm not defending Catholicism. It's just that I was raised in it, and I'm constantly amazed at the bigotry aimed at Catholics. Especially from other Christians. I mean, come on. You all believe in Christ. Isn't that enough? Why do you have to tear each other down?

I like catholics. I have friends and relatives that are. I don't understand some of their beliefs, and the purpose of some of the things that they do in church.
