atheists see him as this mean vengeful jealous murderous beast, and christians see him full of love and forgiveness.
there is evidence in the bible for both, but it's hardly an even split
why do christians think that the few acts of good that god did/does far outweigh the almost continuous acts of evil he did/does?
please don't say it's not up to us to question god, because the only reason someone wouldn't want you questioning them is because they have something to hide.

i know it's early guys, but ask any atheist what the christian god is like and that's the answer you'll get. they don't have to believe in him to have an opinion of the bilblical character

Easy, stop an think about it: most atheists here are EX-Christians. It's a well known fact Ex-Christians tend to be a lot more well studied in the bible than your average Christian is. I have very rarely ever met a practicing Christian who seriously studied the bible and did not turn away when they realized what kind of god they are worshiping.

The perspectives are different because you're dealing with faith versus logic. Faith means you'll believe whatever the Bible tells you about God, and believers love him because you think that's the way to get into heaven, even if some of what you read makes you uncomfortable. Logic points out all of the inconsistencies, impossibilities, and contradictions in the story, and skeptics conclude that they wouldn't even *want* to worship a being that exhibits such unsavory characteristics as it does throughout the Old Testament.

The god of the bible is full of contradictions. Sometimes it is a god of love as in the NT, and sometimes it wants its followers to commit genocide as in the old testament. The bible was written by people who knew nothing about the universe they lived in so that is why heaven was in the sky and hell was underground.
The majority of people in the world need some kind of crutch to lean on to be able to see a purpose in life. For most of them, religion is the crutch. People also need to be kept in line, to follow their creed. The evil god scares them to follow the practices of the religion, and the good god then promises eternal life in bliss.

Atheists don't see him as anything because they don't believe he exists partly because God isn't seen. Christians believe in him, trust him without seeing him. God is not an evil bad spirit that would be the devil who was an angel of God who was cast down to hell for being evil. I myself do not question God because of all the good in my life.

I guess we (atheists) see god as a monster because of the awful things he did (according to the bible) to those who didn't believe in him, while Christians see him as the most forgiving creature because of the good things he did for believers
Christians do not really notice the bad things their god did, they don't care about non-believers, because non-believers to their mind are wrong and should be punished

The biblical god was written in that fashion to instill fear.Religion is about control.
If he was shown as being purely loving and welcoming to everyone then the fear would not be there and there would be a lot less believers.
Christians believe in hell and they fear it.Which is why a lot of them believe they have to appease their god and worship him.
It amazes me that a book written all those years ago to control the masses can still exert such control today

Okay, you're talking about the Biblical god.
You're right there is evidence for both.
Naturally people go with what supports their agenda.
I, atheist that I am, would say that the Biblical idea of god doesn't even rise to the level of being wrong.
The Biblical god is an incoherent mass of contradictions.

These are the aspects that Atheists see as common flaws within Christian theology, for the main part they are trying to point out "apparent hypocrisy".

Atheists haven't tried God. They haven't experienced the joy. Also, because they don't believe in the Bible, when they see stuff in movies and in stories or whatever, they aren't going to know whether its true or not, which may lead them to perceive God as being someone He's not.
