My cousin had the same problem too (she was about your age when she started wearing glasses), and it was because her doctor told her NOT to wear them all the time. Though, she wore them all day long, and now she has to wear glasses all the time. This wouldn't have happenned if she wore them for several hours a day only.
Chances are that this will not happen to you, if you listen to what the doctor tells you. Do not wear them more than he advices you to. Even if you think the problem will go away if you wear them more, you'll probably make it worse. But if you follow the instructions, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Good luck!

I have worn specs since I was eight years of age and over the years my presciption has got stronger and stronger and is now +11.75 in one eye and about 12 in the other. If you need glasses to read only, count yourself lucky. Your eyesight will get worse or deteriorate over the years whether or not you wear specs. The only question is;- Do they help or hinder you when you read or watch TV? If the answer is they help then wear the things when you need to.
If you are still unhappy get a second opinion but be guided by what you need not scare stories from friends

Your eyes naturally get long sighted as you get older, so if you are slightly long sighted now, your eyes will get worse. However, if you are currently short sighted, your eye sight could improve as you age.
Using a PC every day doesn't help your eye sight. I started wearing glasses at 16 as I was only very slightly short sighted. I'm now 24 and my short sightedness has got worse, which I put down to using a pc every day for work!
Have fun with your glasses though. I have a couple of pairs that are totally different and they can give you a whole new look. Also you could try contact lenses - I have some coloured contacts, which again make you look completely different!

Nobody can tell what will happen.
You don't even know WHY she had to wear glasses. There are many reasons why people have to wear them. What happened to your friend happened to your friend. You can not assume that it will happen to everyone.
If you are concerned then you should get a second opinion.
But to assume that the same thing will happen to you is false logic. Are you willing to risk your eyesight on ONE person's opinion when someone who knows about eyesight told you otherwise?

You are at an age where you body, including your eyes, is changing rapidly. When my eldest daughter was going through puberty her eyesight deteriated quite rapidly for a while then stablised. I am short sighted but my prescription hasn't changed in 20 years. My daughter and i both wear contact lenses. Some peoples eyesight continues to worsen throughout their lives. During middle age people can become long sighted. It is actually possible to be both long and short sighted which is a bit difficult.
But don't worry, take care of your general health and you eyes by listening to the advice of your optition. And remember millions of people are short sighted, it's no big deal. My husband is incredibly long sighted and as he has got older, this has become increasingly difficult to deal with. There is actually many more solutions available for short sighted people.

Its not always the case, I was told at 16 I needed glasses I am now 30 and my eyes arent much different to then, I dont need them on all the time and only use them for things like driving watching tv and so on, what happened to your friend doesnt mean the same is going to happen to you

A simple exercise you can do to strengthen your eyesight.
Look at a very tiny thing far away as small as you can see, then look at something else that's as small very close to you. Do this whenever you have a moment.
I have had reading glasses for 14yrs the prescription has stayed the same.
Hope it works for you too. Good Luck

Eyesight will naturally get worse as you age, the glasses will not affect the speed of that slow decline...but not having your sight corrected will, and can be dangerous.

I usd to wear glasses for reading at your age, but not for long, now I dont need them at all, its all dependant on your eyes, you cant predict whether they will get better or worse, just keep going for your regular checks. Its not the glasses that will make your eyes worse!
