Well I was looking 4 a puppy 4 a long time and when i went with my dad to go see a dog breeder she said that if the mother is trained to go to the bathroom outside through a doggy door then the puppy will follow after it's mother and learn to go to the restroom outside.

It can take a little more convincing with a puppy that young but you can certainly start working on it. Just be sure that the puppy has room to turn around and lie down in the crate that you choose. With a chihuahua you could probably get one just a little bigger and then that will be the right size when he is finally full grown. Also, be sure to make the crate a good thing. Always use treats and praise to lure the puppy in the crate and to reward him for sitting nicely while inside of the crate.

First make sure you get a small crate so he won't have to much room
A puppy esp. a chi shouldn't have left mom until 6-10 weeks old
Teh puppy is scared and probably doesn't know what's going on. Just be very consistant.
I breed chis and my babies are usually paper trained by 6 weeks before they even go to a new home.
tehn remember tehy don't get full bladder control until tehy are 6 months.
each pup is diferent just like a child some potty train early an others much later. It depends on the pup.
Good Luck
