Okay, every time I see a cockroach I run like hell. I see them alot out side and somtimes in the house "barely". I'm scared that it might bite me. And i'm a dude. Is it normal for a dude to be scared of cockroaches because in his childhood he got bit on the neck of something that look simliar to a cockroach? Even when i'm brave enough to kill one I look to the other side when i'm killing it. I don't like to see the gutz and sh!t. I'm not scared of no insects or other bugs but i'm only scared of cockroaches for some reason. Why am i'm like this? And do they have some guys thats is actualy scared of em? Am I the only one?

I happen to know you are not the only guy afraid of cockroaches. I've actually known a few, though not all of them would have been self confident enough to admit it. So since when does the y chromosome exempt you from a fear of something- even if the something is a disgusting bug? From what you say, it sounds as if you were conditioned in childhood as the result of a traumatic experience. Things that make strong impressions on us as children do hang with us through life, no matter how "logical" we thing we are, nor how much we know sensibly. Your reation is emotional, and first impressions weigh in heavily on emotional reactions. I'm not afraid of them, but I certainly find killing them distasteful for exactly the reasons you mentioned. On the other hand, I feel exactly the way you do about spiders, and although I wasn't bitten as a child, I did live in a place where there were tarantulas. I woke up with one on the pillow with me, when I was four, and it literally scared the peas and ques out of me. I am much, much older now- and still have to catch my breath in the presence of a muli-legged creature. Size doesn't matter. I have been known to vaccum them up, hair spray them, varnish them (hubbies spray varnish), anything that doesn't involve making any kind of contact. I lived in a house with them in the attic, and I never ever went to the attic in the four years I lived in the house. You would think after all these years I'd have at least outgrown the fear or come to more logical sensible terms with it, and I haven't. Not really. I don't panic, but it's not far short and it takes great force of will for the really hairy ones. So I wouldn't get too sensitive over the matter. Just make future GF's a deal- you will kill the spiders, and they can get the roaches. While most gals are terrified of spiders, for some reason, they can kill a roach without a second thought.

Everyone in this world has a phobia whether he admits it or not..neopolin was having a fear that if he would not ride on a black horse then he will surely loose the war, imran khan--greatest cricket player and a legend who is famous for his bravery and confidence is afraid of lizards...me myself has a phobia of dark...it is not neccessary that u try to get rid of ur phobias but it is neccessary that u should learn how to live with ur phobia....u cant get rid of ur phobia but u can manage it...whenever u see a cockroach leave the place and go to some other place.....u can also use a powder which will kill cockroaches...there r many cockroach killer powders easily available in markets

Cockroaches can be freaky. Sometimes they freak me out, sometimes not. At first the big ones didn't and now they do.

In the U.S.A. we just hire an exterminator to treat our homes with a poison in a gel form that last longer. But you need to treat two or three months in a row to break the life cycle of the roaches.

Sounds like a phobia, an irrational fear. Of course you seem to have a good reason for said fear. I'm pretty sure you aren't the only one afraid of a cockroach. I don't care for them myself, but than I can really think of anyone who jumps for joy at the thought of seeing one.

lol I'm definately the wrong person to answer this as I yell for my son whenever I see a spider! But cockroaches, while they may be disgusting and fast, I don't know if they are really that scary but bad experiences from childhood will always guide us!

I wouldnt consider this an 'irrational' fear - man those things are U.G.L.Y (not to mention H.U.G.E)!!!!!

I have never seen a real life cockroach but pictures and images are enough to make me repulsed and creeped out.

Its perfectly acceptable and understandable for anyone of any sex to be scared of cockroaches (but I do expect men to deal with the spiders, beetles and any other such bugs - its their duty as men!!!!)

It is normal to nayone to fear something that scared them in the past. My boyfriend, for example, is scared of some flying bugs that come around in May because several years ago one of those bugs got between his eye and his glasses. He got pretty scared and he hates them ever since. So no, you are not the only one. Don't worry! :)

It's not weird at all.
My brother is 20 years old, and he still asks me, his 15 year old sister to get rid of bugs in his room.

I'm pretty sure you're not the only male afraid of cockroaches. So don't sweat it!

Roaches are very clever, I noticed this when I lived in Australia.....they actually are the only insect etc that run towards you when you try to catch them.....that's why they freak me out so much...silly really considering the whole size ratio thing....

but I feel your pain, even though I'm a girl....I can't stand them....they're evil...specially the massive ones that fly....God I've freaked myself out now...will have to go and have a smoke to calm down :O)
