I've yet to find any area devoid of at least one decent kennel, where dogs are well looked after. Ask your vet, or someone you trust's vet if they know of any good boarding providers in your locale. Phone around and poll local vet's offices, pick the one with most hits. Dogs who will stay in a yard when you don't go away too long might run if left too long alone. Went through this myself recently. A day, with sufficient water, on a chain, and able to go under some shelter sdhould it rain., is about all I'd say it's cool to leave a dog alone. If a neighbor will be able to feed, water, and check on the dog often, then you can get away with longer, with no ill effect.

Do not leave a dog alone for more than a few hours like the length of time you must be away to do a regular day of work. I own and operate a kennel where I have quite a few dogs of my own. When I must be away over night I have a nephew who is eighteen come stay at my home. If you have an indoor pet and I hope you do , as it is so much safer for the dog, you will either need to find a kennel to board the pet or hire a sitting service. A kennel at a vets office is ok for a dog that is completely house trained as they are only at the facility a limited number of hours and therefore can not let the dog out late at night, the last rounds of walks for these dogs are usually around 7pm. A private kennel is a little more expensive, but they have the luxury to spend more time with your pet. A hired sitting service comes into your home and feeds and plays with your dog and takes them for walks gives the medication as needed all in the dogs familiar surroundings. It is safer for the pet and most pet owners fell better leaving the pet in its own bed. This however is more expensive than even a private kennel. These pst sitting services are not the same as a house sitter who simply stays in your home and tends it while you are away. A pet service will not stay in your home unless specifically contracted to do so, and they are required to be bonded for a considerable sum. Many years ago I owned a sitting service in Atlanta Georgia and I was required to be bonded for 5 million dollars.
The choice is yours of course and the cost is certainly a consideration, so choose what is best and most feasible for your budget and your pet.

call a vet's office and see if they know of anyone that comes to your home and lets the dog out and feeds and plays with it about 4 times per day. Some people do this for a business. It is easier on the dog since many do not do so well at a kennel. Or perhaps you have a friend or relative that will take care of your dog for you.

Depends. Sometimes we go out on a weekend trip where we might only be gone 3 days. If you leave PLENTY of water and food out it's ok. We used to use kennels which are nice... if they have a good reputation. Ever considered just having a pet sitter? A family member, neighbor, or friend probably wouldn't mind watching your dog. Or you could check with your vet. They could suggest a kennel that is nice or they could even take in your dog for a while.

Some people have responsible friends they can trust to mind them. There is always a chance they may escape or get hurt while there. Accidents happen, gates get left open by tradesmen, posties etc. I would only be confident if he was in a boarding kennel. Its expensive though. Your dog will not be admitted unless you have proof of his vaccinations. Find a reputable kennel. Many a dog has come home with kennel cough, fleas and other nasty things. As for how long can you leave him? As least time as possible. He will NOT be happy. Hell be scared to death, feel abandoned and get depressed... Our dog stayed in a kennel for two weeks. When we got home she wouldnt speak to anyone for about a month.(she came from a pound, so all her memories came flooding back. She thought she was abondoned..AGAIN! Poor little baby. Now, as we couldnt put her thru it again, the dog comes on holiday with us, or i move home for the time to be with her. If i cant move home, i just visit every day to feed, walk and cuddle her. Its an inconvenience, but i dont mind as she is my little sister and just as important a family member.
I spose if you can find a honest reliable friend. Keep her in the house, our out the back but padlock any gates. Ask a friend or neighbour to feed and check on her. Also if she is outside, she may howl and bark the whole time and really annoy the neighbours. She could be baited by a spiteful neighbour..Tough call....you may ask the local vet if they can board her? That way shell be in SAFE hands...but it will cost you. Maybe you can trade with him. If someone has a certain profession? Like if your dads a dentist, swap for free dental for a year or something. Or free haircuts, or lawnmowing..whatever....you can work something out.. Any housesitters you can trust? A mature teenager that wouldnt mind leaving home for a few weeks? Youll still have to pay them something.
Youd be amazed how many people in your position actually dump or put the animals down so they can go on holiday..
Fascinationg race us humans! Good luck. hope you find a plan..

Find a neighbor or reliable teen. Best place to check is your trusted vet. They love animals and would never refer a place that is not safe for your love one. As for staying at home alone? How long can you go with out having to visit the bathroom? Could leave them outside but what if the water is spilled and its hot etc. Good luck finding a sitter.

Well we don't travel a lot ,but see if your dog's breeder will bord him/her. You should trust them! I have also heard they bord dogs at pet stores. Any thing you do should be ok as long as u take a good causious look around were u leave him/her. The thought scares me too, never know what they do to baby when your gone! I would leave him/her at a relitives or with that dog crazy teen you know of (Or i hope you know of).
Be careful and drive safe (Or how ever your traveling)

Almost all vets board dogs when their owners leave. There are also kennels that board dogs, or training facilities. If you choose to leave your dog with a friend/family, make sure that you trust them! Sometimes dogs will escape looking for their owners, like in the movie Homeward Bound. You can also give your dog back to his/her breeder. They will be glad to have him/her.

You should research boarding kennels in your area, go out and visit them and then book your dog in with the one you feel comfortable with.
Alternatively you may be able to get a friend or family memvber pet sit your pet, also there are companies that do this as well.

I would try to find a trusted friend to leave her with, but for longer times I would take her to the VET I used who also boarded animals. I liked the Vet's place because they could care for her more. You could leave a dog for maybe one long day alone but try to have some one stop over to let her out and feed her.
