Easy. Its wrong.
There have been statistical studies to test this hypothesis and they show conclusively that prayer fails.

This is also a good question for it is a word game played to confuse. The question is can human life bring forth his/her wishes into reality. The answer is yes and you and others have done it many times and not recognized it. The mind is a creator and does many creations daily. There is no secret a child does it also. When you use something Like a spirit/prayer or other entity to help you,you give away your power by dividing it between two or more minds and they may have a different dream than you do. Or you may feel guilt, shame or some other emotion to contort your original idea. Just know without a doubt what you want and see it in your mind and set it free to do its thing.

Basically it is saying that when we ask for something and we have faith that is will happen God will answer our prayer. It is kinda like the verse where Jesus says if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, (Mathew 17:20)Problem is people think that the answer to pray is always what they want. Unfortunately it does not always happen that way. Sometimes the answer to prayer is the complete opposite of what we want. Another thing too is God's time is not always our time. We want it like today and now. God's timing may be tomorrow or 6 months down the road. I hope I was able to shine a little light onto this verse for you. without confusing you more.

If you believe a thing is so it will be so. Ask any child who believes an "Oucher" is hiding in the closet. Sometimes God says No to our prayers but that is also an answer to prayer, just not the one we wanted. Another translation, "I give you my word, if you are ready to believe that you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer, it shall be done for you." Mark 11::23 says you must have no doubt about receiving what you ask for.

In my mind, there is an implicit thought, and that is, that when we pray, we pray with God's will in mind. Do I ask in prayer for a new car? No matter your faith, it's probably not going to happen. Do I ask that my sister become saved and baptized? And I really believe it? If it's according to His will, it is done.
Secondly, when He says I tell you, the you here is not singular, it's plural. This indicates that more than one person have come together in prayer and agreed together to petition the Lord for a specific dispensation. This is the kind of prayer God answers. The kind that further His move and interests on the earth.

vs. from Mark 11:19-25
Jesus was speaking to his apostles
about the power of faith.
At Matt. 6:9-13 Jesus instructs us
as to what is proper for prayer to our Father,
The Lord's Prayer or The Our Father.
My translation says: This is why I tell you, All the things YOU pray and ask for have faith that you have practically received, and YOU will have them. Mark 11:24

It's true. Most people will that that verse and pray something like this, "Oh God, I would really like a new corvette for my birthday." and then they wait, but it doesn't happen so therefore they conclude that prayer doesn't work....
Elsewhere in the Bible it states that if you are a believer, if you are walking in His ways, and if you pray for something consistent with what the Lord wants, He 'will' answer your prayers. The most powerful thing you can do in prayer is to pray for others and not yourself. If you pray for others and you are humble in spirit and doing the Lords will, He 'promises' to give you your hearts content, even more than you can imagine.
But unless you let Him into your heart, unless you are willing to live for Him and do His will, you will never experience what He has promised to give you.
Remember, He gave all he had for you...He gave his blood, He gave His life...What are you willing to give Him? Once you have answered this, think about your prayer again...Who does it honor?

24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received [1] it, and it will be yours.
Mark 11:24 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
Public Domain
24Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
I believe God will give what U ask only if it is good for you. For he is the only being who know what lays a head and if what he gives U is for the better of YOU as a Christian or not.
Just remember he knows U better then U know yourself, so his decision R righteous and with Love.

This is where the poisonous "name it and claim it" doctrine that many prime-time preachers and many churches preach and teach stems from. To them, God is a big "sugar daddy" who can't say 'No" to His followers.
God indeed answers prayers, and many times will give is what we ask of Him. BUT many people ignore the warning that James said concerning praying for things, when he said;
James 4:3
3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Too many people pray for something that they WANT rather than what they NEED. God is a just and loving God, and will sometimes say "No" because he knows that what we are praying for will be harmful to us.
The apostle Paul clarified the issue when he said;
I Timothy 6:7-9
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
Pray for your NEEDS, and thank God for hearing and answering your prayer, no matter what His response is, is what Jesus was saying in Mark 11:24

Yes, unfortunately many Christians only get to Mark or to the gospels and therefore lose out on what the REST of the story is like.
It is unfortunate, but John added some small print to that explanation. I guess too many misunderstood it early on.
------
1 John 5: 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.(ACV)
-----
Thus the equation changes drastically. Only prayers that are according to God's will shall be answered. So forget your Mercedes Benz and you big house on the beach front.
The scriptures tell us to be content with our daily needs -- that is God's will for us. So, concentrate your prayers on spiritual things.

It is telling you to have faith. There is power in your thoughts. Your doubt and disbelief keep you from having your prayers answered. If you KNOW that God loves you and will give you what you need and will honestly give it to you,so long as it is gotten honestly, (no harm intended, or asked for) you will get what you want.
I am a happy woman on that fact alone. I never want anyone hurt, but I always get what I want. Whether it be a car, house, new clothes, whatever. I get it. I have faith and it blesses me.
Also, as a side note to that, you should never tell someone that their prayers won't be answered, because that causes it to be so. Thoughts are powerful, that is why Jesus told us not to look on someone with lust and to guard our thoughts.
