I plan on using the MTA but i was wondering about things like, how early should i arrive before the departure time? or how do i make sure im riding the correct bus? how do you do transfers when you have to? etc. I like to know how to do all those things and any more things if people have them.

Transfers are free but you have to ask.
Show up and the bus shuold be close to on time.
As for your route, you need to know that but ask someone at the stop they will help you out

You should know what bus number you are waiting for. Try to be there 5 minutes before the scheduled pick up time. Have exact change ready. Then you just get on, drop your money in the box, and sit down. When you want to get off, you press the signal button (if there is one) and the driver stops and lets you off. It's really quite simple.
