Islam isn't really a religion of peace.
Sure the muslims will tell you that it is, but its a lie.
They just want to take over the earth and make everyone convert or die.

There are violent people everywhere and in every religion.
Why didn't anyone talk about a guy's religion (he was a Christian) when he killed his pregnant wife just because he didn't want another baby?? It's soo common, this thing was just an example in the news that i read a couple of days ago.
No one says anything against Christians when the subject is about them or any other religious of people.
People are blinded with media. No one tries to do some research, that's why so many people think Islam is a violent religion and so do Muslims. But NO! We are not and our religion is not!
Those terrorists are just terrorists! A terrorist cannot have a religion because all of them are based on peace! Please try to be more open minded and not to hurt others' feelings.
Peace and blessings.

What you say is true.
But, it is also true of Christians. Remember the Inquisition, or the Crusades. Or look at how some Christians bomb abortion clinics and kill OB/GYN's. Or look at how some Christians are so full of hate that they form hate groups (like the KKK, or Westboro Baptists, or Hitler and his Nazi's).
Think about how the Pagans burned the Christians when they first came about, or how the Christians burned and tortured the Pagans when they finally came to power and the roles were reversed.
Religion, in my OPINION, is't all that great an invention. Faith, now THAT is a good thing! Ideas are a good thing! Being spiritual is a good thing! But religion on the other hand, is run by men. And men are consumed with power and control. So they use religion for war, for greed, for power, fro subjugation, for control.
There are nutcases and violent people in EVERY religion.

the above answers explained most of the points,
ignore the stuff cited from prophet of doom= they got the verses we're proud of and just cut ends and bits - hence they are short,
islam is a religion of justice, but justice in islam is coupled with mercy which is greater than justice, ive read reports from some university in the US about how because no mercy was shown to muslims, those who have been affected by such violence will not show mercy to others, like they want to really harm the other people... now that isnt the prophetic way.
many muslims are hurt by how world politics have played against them and their societies- i mean im talking wholescale destruction of civil society here- and its not just muslim countries- many places where colonial powers tried to implant christian roots by demolishing old systems of life- many aboriginal people suffer the same fate today in Western countries- like Australia for example.

I think more muslims need to try to learn the meaning of Islam because if they understand it, they should realise that the use of violence is not acceptable in such circumstances.
Also every individual will be held accounted for their actions individually, blindly following the footstep of others with insufficient knowledge will not get one far.

I think if you look throughout history all religions have had times of violence, intolerance and radicalism.
islam in essence is very similar to christianity in the morals and priciples they teach but individuals can corrupt and translate these teachings to suit there own purpose, such as the christian persucution of witches and so on.
I dont think this problem is limited to any particular religions but more to groups that have there own purpose to serve.

Easy.
All Abrahamic religions are tribal religions of xenophobic aggression to the "out group" and "in group" exclusivity.
Despite all claims, it is clear that Islam - like its sister religions - is exceedingly violent and intolerant.

People will use religion as a cloak to further their own agenda. Christianity did it with the Crusades.

if christianity is peaceful, why do so many christians start holy wars and bomb abortion clinics?
and yes, most of the muslim violence is cultural, not religion based. research it a little more, and you'll find this to be true.

Buddha says :
"Satan is the god of disease, death , sex and desires."
All life is sacred. Even an animal has a right to live.
Any religion asking its people to kill others must be from the satan.

may I answer this question same as I answered it before to a similar question:
"let us speak on it honestly!
many people forget when judjing the behaviors of some muslims ,that muslims are humans as others and not angels! and they are effected by what happens in their countries.and that the number of muslims in the world is 1000,000,000!
so if the media is talking about 1000 muslim terrorists..then their percentage would be about 0.000001 of muslims which is very law percentage.
muslims in many islamic countries have suffered much from their dectorine governments and from the violation happened to their lands and souls from the foriegn invasion,
being oppressed for long time causes violence and hatred sometimes...loosing and loosing all the time makes many people feel hopeless ...
but learning the teachings of islam well ,will make moderate people ..but some muslims are not well educated in their religion as should be...
because islam in many verses of the quran teaches man to be patient for others and to be open ,to love justice ,to be strong in faith and personality, and to control his emotions in away that does not make him react badly to bad things...
if someone entered my home and stole something very precious to me, maybe the first way I may think of that I want to kill him but after 10 minutes I may think that he should be prisoned not killed..but maybe after an hour when i calm down I would forgive him..
it differs from one to another how much it takes him to forgive others..
it depends on his way he controls his emotions.
but behold, i don't mean by that if someone damaged your home by a misele and killed your son by RBJ you should stand and watch him killing you and others without a sin,you have the right to defend yourself but without violating and extreminating others.
I do not blame palestinians(muslims or christians)when they defend themselves against israeli terrorism.
I do not blame the Iraqies (muslims and christians) when they defend themselves against American terrorism.
these nations have the right to live in peace without being invaded and immigrated.
they have the right to defend themselves as they can until their lands become liberated. "
