any new yorkers here know any good bakeries in midtown and the theatre district area?...what about pizza places in these areas?

Not in theater district, but, very good pizza

There simply isn't good authentic food in the theater district area. Take a 10-minute subway ride to Greenwich Village or pretty much any other neighborhood, and you'll do better. You can find reviews of such places on www.citysearch.com.

Nothing in Midtown.
Best Italian bakery: Veniero's 11th St corner of 1st Ave.
Best Jewish/Kosher: Moishe's, 7th St. on 2d Ave.
Best Pizza: I go with Lombardi's on Spring St. in Soho.
