im about to take my puppy to a vet, what is a 5 in 1 shot? what shots are included in that shot?

The only vaccine your puppy should be getting is:

distemper/parvo/canine hepatitis/adenovirus-2...if lepto is not a high risk in your area he should NOT be receiving this vaccine.

Also rabies should not be given under the age of 20 weeks and not with any other vaccine.

go to the AAHA site for the current vaccine protocol...also go to Dr. Jean Dodds site and/or Dr. Ron Schultz site.. Also the University of Wisconsin site may have the protocol up now as well.
Get the Nove. 2006 issue of The Whole Dog Journal..it has a great article on vaccianting.

There are only four major diseases which Shultz recommends that you vaccinate against, these being rabies, canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2), canine distemper virus (CDV) and canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2). Then you, with your vet, can consider if any more are necessary, such as Lyme disease. Schultz explains in simple terms why we are over-vaccinating our dogs to the detriment of their health, and why we should be only vaccinating against the necessary diseases, and why we should only vaccinate every three years. I personally do not vaccinate at all, and have four dog here in ages ranging from 4 - 11 yrs, all of which are in superb health.

they put all the meds together so that they dont have to give the poor dog five shots!!
im not sure whats in it but they are mostly amuine boosters so you dog wont get serious illnesses.

its a 5 in 1 and its called DH/P/PV....Distemper,hepatitis,parainfluenza,parvovirus

if there is a L in with the DH/P/PV it contains leptospirosis
