The only problem I have with sending money is that how do I know if my entire $500 bucks are going to go straight to kids for food without some jackals using some to buy a BMW? My mom did voluntary accountant work for a non-profit charity and she said most of the money never got to the needy, and since she did the books she would know. She quit.

I would say Darfur. You get rewarded with the irreplaceable feeling to have helped someone who REALLY needed the money.
Other than that, iPhone is pretty nice... Difficult situation you got yourself into there.
However, I think it is outstanding that you take the second option into consideration. Most people would just buy the phone and not even think about donating money.

Well you can buy an IPOD and send $5 to one kid and he'll eat for a week out there on that. Unless he's a fool.
If you send $500 to some guy on TV who feeds kids YOU might be the fool!
