Join the crowd. I have been a fan for awhile longer and couldn't agree more. The crowd that NASCAR sucked in in the last 6 years will never know how great it was to be a fan and watch a race back then.
You never heard of such things as 100,000 dollar fines for a parts violation and points taken away from a driver when the crew chief did something wrong.
90% of the tracks they ran at you could tell where they were just by the banking or the distance of the straight aways , or one and two turn is tighter than three and four.
Not todays newer tracks, where they were all built to get there seating capacity and put a track inside it. So boreing and to prove my point there have been several tracks that found this out and tried changinig there banking to make it more exciting but for me it was to late.
I don't really have a clue where they came up with this top thirty five in points make the race. I can remember when people were mad because the current champion got there pick of pits. Said it was an unfair edge. Now 35 make the race before they even qualify.
It wasn't that long ago when NASCAR did away with the quaifing motor and made them use the same motor they were going to run the race to help cut cost so the underfunded teams has one less expencive cost in there budget.
On thing I find kind of funny is the new fans think they stumbled on to this sport and they are the reason for making it so popular. And that couldn't be so far from the truth. ESPN and CBS and a few other channels did a great job and not until FOX with all that money came in and bought the rights did everything start going down hill. And then when FOX made the ESPN bunch be band from going inside the track to do there ESPN news on the race that was just a little to much. It was nice though that many drivers would go out to the parking lot to do there post race interveiws. Wonder how many of these new NASCAR founders remember that.
Every track was a sell out with out them. The tracks that had a hard time selling out was due to a scheduling problem. Not everyone wanted to sit in the stands on a HOT afternoon in July at Darlington, Talladega, Daytona so they moved the race to the spring and fall or changed it to a night race and that took care of that.
The TV coverage is the one thing that took off out of control. The one that I get a kick out of is I think it is called NASCAR live or Trackside live something like that, but anyway it's the one where these I guess fans watch this show live looking at the the backs of the people on stage. LOL sorry
I could keep on going because there have been so many changes I just don't know where to stop.

I love NASCAR but I question some of their recent choices. I hate the mystery cautions at just the right time to save someone or close up the field at the finish. I have no problem with a caution if they can actually find the cause of it. I really think they worked so hard at attracting new fans that they are pissing off the old fans. New fans will come and go and usually aren't as dedicated. Putting races in locations where they aren't big fans just cause they have a big track while taking away great tracks because they don't have 150k seats.

My suggestions
- Dump a Cali race and bring back Rockingham or a new track like that.
- No more cuttie cutter tracks. Be original its what makes some of the best tracks some of the best.
- Make sure to spread out the types of tracks. 4 plate races, 2 road courses, 14 short tracks, 16 intermediate (some of those 1.5 mile quad ovals will need to go)
- Put a road course in the Chase. Use the same % as you have above so they are all represented fairly. You want to be a champ you should be good at every type of race NASCAR runs.
- No cautions unless you can see it.

I have to agree I'm getting pretty disgusted with the current state of things. I'll leave my soapbox about competition and fairness in the garage for now, but I will say this; if teams are cheating they need to be dealt with harshly and quickly.

If there are going to be rules, let them be solid, known and clear. F1 might have a rule book on the order of two Manhattan phone directories, but the rules are clear and I can't remember any penalties for "gray" area violations.

Racing is about innovation and skill. Not giving a field of drivers the same exact cars, impossible tracks, a lot of money and media exposure.

Yes, the cautions are becoming ridiculous, the reality TV type coverage of team politics is disgusting and the other contributor is absolutely right, this sport has been big a very long time. There was New York Times over the fold coverage of a Jaguar winning a 1954 NASCAR event. It's not a "new" phenomenon. Maybe some of this "newness" needs to go away.

Nascar is definitely not making many new fans these days. I don't quite get it... they get penalized for figuring out a way to get a "competitive edge". WHATEVER!!! Excuse me, but last time I checked, the object of the whole race for a driver and their team was to WIN... they're not just out there to play loop-de-loop. And if their team can find a new and better way to improve their car to make it the winning car, well that just shows their determination and desire to win. So what if the rest of them didn't figure it out and be able to make the same adjustments or whatever. So maybe the others just need to get their butt out there and figure out what they need to do different. Hell, that's racing... these guys are there to win. And I agree with the caution flag BS.... it's become almost predictable. Here we are... we're actually having a RACE guys... oops, something's actually working the right way here, better find some debris on the track so we can throw that caution flag! Give me a break! And as for the money that they penalize these guys... anybody know where that money goes? Is somebody's pocket getting extra padding here or what?

Huh? Girl, you obviously don't know stock cars (even though they are all the same in this day and age). They do NOT automatically turn left. Watch the Sonoma road race this Sunday. They just had 160,000 people at MIS even with the threat of rain. Does that tell you why NASCAR gets good coverage? Formula 1- Follow the leader-BORING. Where you been? F1 is a multi-billion high dollar sport. Way above NASCAR for $$$.

i agree completely, and though i hate the "Back in the good ole days" people, it was better, and it was pure, if you won, you won cause you earned it, not because, nascar insured your spot or because nascar helped you play catch-up with a Lucky dog early on and a phantom caution at the end, back then the best man won and that's that

top 35 has to go, hell the top 20 are gonna make the race anyways i don't see why they need a provisional,

illegal car mods, equal qualifying times being thrown out if the car can pass inspection in time to get another q time great if not we will see you at the next race,

Lucky dog has got to go, people complain about lap cars fighting with the leaders and causing wrecks, well yeah no kidding the rules say you have too,

and nascar built its empire with out a chase, so why the hell do we need one now?

every year the nascar/wrestling comparison gets closer and closer

This was the worse year ever. They seem to pick on certain teams, I'm frankly getting real tired of it all, and I love Nascar, but its just not the same since the COT and all the dang rules. I think that the penalties were too much for everyoone, I can see putting them at the end, but geeze, let the guys race. And as far as crew chiefs, they can still be in contact with the crew.

I dont like some of the things they are doing. I mean I hate that Jr., Gordon, and Johnson, all got the same penalty as Kurt Busch, even though he also hit a crewman and hit Tony's car. I think that he should have got suspended. I mean he got penalized the same amount as the others but those were all racing infractions on their cars, and his was a pit road incident, that could of hurt a crewman, and hurt the driver, and could have done serious damage. They should have suspended him.

I love Nascar but I say let them race.... I agree with Ricard C.. How many times at critical moments do you see a stupid yellow flag.... Gee...all the cars need to pit and debris shows up on the track... I'm tired of the petty (no pun intended) garbage between drivers and points and $ be taken away from teams simply for modifications...... Make them change the car back and start them at the end of the field.... get caught twice and suspend them for a race..... Please Nascar..DON'T RUIN OUR SPORT !!!!!

No.....just quit watching. you dont need the stress and we could use the peace and quiet...lol

People, quit bitching about PHANTOM FLAGS - Let it go, they are NOT ALL PHANTOMS (Only when it hurts YOUR driver)

Illegle mods - Huge issue now that 24 and 48 were caught. Got news for you...HUGE FLASH - They ALL have done, and will continue to "Push the envelope". Petty did it, Junior Johnson did it, Fireball Roberts did it, the Allisons did it, crap, They ALL did/done/do it!!! **** fire and damnation, it aint like they put a jet engine in it or had a nitrous oxide tank. They are told to makke those vehicle as fast as they can. Aint nothing STOCK about a STOCK CAR!

Rubbin is racing.

Loved the bumping going on between Gordon and Stewart in California.....and oh look, noone wrecked....

NASCAR is awesome, You whiners are the ones that has to go.

You ***** about rule changes but they were created to bring parity. Parity sucks.

Does the chase format work, not really but it was brought about to equal the field. Is it perfect, nope, but how loud would most of you be bitching when JG had a 271 point lead already? I'm thinking pretty friggin loud.
