Dogs dont forget. I had a toy pom and had to leave the country to work in Australia, my toy pom lived with family and on my return 2yrs later, she still remembered me and was very excited to see me.
It all depends on the type of bond you have with your dog. If you are very loving and affectionate to your dog they will always remember that loving nature in you. They can also memorise smells, just like we memorise things in our everyday life.
If you have a strengthened bond with your dog, you have nothing to worry about, just ensure the care you leave your dog in is just as loving as your dog was with you.

Without a doubt - I've had dogs recognise me after several years absence and it was like we'd never been apart. Even the ones that didn't recognise me on sight recognised me when they got my scent.
Just think how many people have had memories triggered by smells, then think how much better a dog's sense of smell is than ours - If the dog knew you well it'll probably remember you.

I don't know about dogs but I was gone for six months and when I got back my cat got right back into all the routines that we had before I left so, obviously, she remembered me.
I don't think animals are as stupid as people think they are. They remember things and they have opinions about the people that surround them. Obviously they don't have the same kinds of thoughts that people do but that doesn't mean that they have NO thoughts.

I believe they can. There were many dogs that recognized their owners when they finally got reunited after Katrina. Plus every once in a while you hear about a dog walking cross country to find its owners. They are smarter then we sometimes give them credit for.
