Control Panel - System - General - Should be there under Registered to:

Or, if its the original computer, the code should be on back of your PC on a sticker?

Use the free Belarc Adviser to get your CD key code:

Back up all personal data from your PC (copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive) FIRST.

You must use your Recovery disks to avoid driver problems, not a store-bought XP, so Read The Friendly Manual SECOND.

if you are using the dell disk on a dell pc then it shouldnt ask for the serial number. If its asking for the serial number then look on the sides and top of the case, there will be a green or blue sticker with the number you need on it.

No because then anyone could get your key the key you see isn't the authorisation code Microsoft wouldn't be so stupid to do that anyway.
