Tell her it's fine to bring her sister, and that you will invite your probation officer along to keep her company.

I hear and understand your side, and her side of the story. As far as she is concerned you are just co-workers. She most probably mentioned to her sister that she is going to the show with a CO-WORKER. Her sister most probably told her she would like to go too.
She was polite enough to e-mail you and let you know her sister would like to go. I don't see anything wrong with her advising you. As far as she is concerned it is not a date with a boyfriend.
Now it is up to you to either tell her you would rather just the two of you go. Or you can make up an excuse why you can't go.
Good luck, either way.

Well, just go. You never know you might just like her as well. You can't make friends with people without giving them a chance.
Is there really a problem that its not just going to be the two of you? What difference is it going to make to your night, other than meeting her sister for the first time?

Unless I'm romantically interested with the person I wouldn't mind it if someone comes along with us. But that's just me cos I love meeting new people. If it bothers you that much, then you should tell your friend. Chances are though, she wouldn't understand why you don't want her sister to tag along, after all you're still going with her to the show.

Give it a try, maybe you will like her sister. Maybe the friend doesn't like you as much as you thought. Maybe the sister needs to go out and this is an excuse.

Unless you have a romantic interest in your colleague I see no problem with her sister tagging along.
Who knows, she just might end up being a great friend!

I agree with you; however, it is really a silly selfish way for us both to be. Why not just go? Don't work yourself up into a dizzy. It would be different if you were planning on going to bed with her, or something. Maybe you will like the sister better.

I don't see a problem with her sister joining you. Not only will you get to meet someone new, you may learn that you all have great things in common.

She's probably nervous and wants someone there for her own comfort zone. Call and tell her it's not going to work this week after all...let some time go by and try again.
