its is working and properly managed and it seems to be winning the format war as most game developers and film industries have voted to use it to reduce piracy and develop better games.

Actually they are trying to manage it better that is why they changed the guy at the helm. Also it ISN'T the exact same thing. VHS beat Betamax in the format war. Blu-Ray is beating HD-DVD where it counts at the moment. Although guess it is a little like Beta in that it is an attempt at a NEW format being run by Sony(although less chance that Blu-Ray/PS3 will Bankrupt and nearly destroy the company like Betamax did).

Not quite. Blu-ray or HD-DVD will be the next high def format. Do your research and you'll see that the Blu-ray has more movie studios supporting it than HD-DVD. The top 4 grossing movie studios from last year supports Blu-ray. Blockbuster and well as other movie rental companies recently announced that they will only carry Blu-ray movies in their stores. Blu-ray movie are outselling HD-DVD movies about a 3:1 ratio. And let's not forget that the PS3 will have the most games released for it this year, which means that developers are supporting both Blu-ray and the PS3.

Want to know why Blu-ray is winning? Could it be that Blu-ray supporters are all united while the HD-DVD camp is split (Can you say MS)?

HD-DVD could be wining the format IF MS had decided to include the HD-DVD player in the 360, but MS decided not to. Then MS had a chance to make it up by including it in the Elite, but once again, MS decides to abandon its parters.

All those people that bought a HD-DVD add-on wasted 200 bucks. That's what you get for supporting MS.

It seems so. First of all, the PS3 is badly advertised and has a high price tag. Add to the fact, that in Europe the hardware got reduced with the removal of the PS2 compatibility Emotion chip, no one really knows what Blue Ray is or does, as most people don't own HD-TVs yet.

Furthermore, both HD formats (BR as well as HD DVD) are struggling with buyers acceptance, as Blue Ray is more and more limiting the end user in his rights to watch a movie.

Do you know those copyright texts on DVD, that you aren't allowed to skip? Annoying, isn't it?
Imagine this scenario: as soon as a player has been compromised and known to allow a user to make a copy of a disc, the movie companies can ban a player completely from new movies.
As soon as you play a movie that got released after a hacker successfully ripped a BlueRay film from a PS3 the PS3 must block itself from playing blueRay discs. Even Discs you own and worked before will be blocked, as a BlueRay player must store revoked keys in its memory.

On the other hand, HD DVD really allows the user to make a low resolution copy to put on his handheld device.
However, the HD DVD, too makes it possible to block your device from playing movies, should it become compromised.

Therefore, a lot of people are reluctant to buy a technology that can legally block them from their collection of movies.

No, betamax, zipdrive and minidisc were all failures. Blu-Ray on the other hand is not. It has been outselling HD-DVD since it came out. So id say thats not a failure.

I don't know about the ps3 but bluray and hddvd both stink, they are like laser disks. Better but not so much that people care. Sales of both formats is laughable. There is this forum called AVS where people talk about all the high end electronics real people don't care about. They were able buy so many multiple copies of hddvds one month it generated a significant spike in the trend of sales on a national scale. They do not have a very large forum. HD penetration in the us market is way less than any one expected so no one is going to care about HD for a long time. Any predictions are going to be way off to considering they have all been way off before.

I remeber, that when DVD came out - people said, that it's a failure. Than PS2 boosted DVD sales real high. Now the same thing is going on with PS3 and BD-DVD's
