When do you know when your puppy is ready to start drinking regular drinking water? He spent 4 days at the vet on iv, and now he is at home and ive been force feeding him pedylite , he hates it . Hes also getting subcatanous fluids at the vet everyday , but still i need to supervise hes intake 24 hours a day. The other day while bathing him he started drinking the fossette water , only gave him a couple of licks . He wont drink pedyalite on hes own . Since i got him to eat small portions of food now , what can i give him to drink on hes own ? Is gatorade as good as pedyalite ? Is it safe to give him regular water , and also give him pedylite? ive tried mixing it but no luck . Ofcourse ill be monitoring all hes water intakes i dont want to over hydrate the poor little pup?

I'm sorry but I don’t know the answer to your question and I'm not going to make any suggestions without a good understanding. I think your best choice would be to call the vet.

I am so sorry that your pup had to suffer this dreaded disease and I am truly happy for both of you that he seems to have made it thru. My 5 month old pup had just sufferered from parvo 3 weeks ago, and he recovered, thank God, I was not told to restrict any water intake for him, in fact the vet had told me that if he showed any signs of drinking or eating on his own, it was very very good! I gave him lots of water the minute I got him home and made sure that he always had a plentiful supply of it at a convenient place, to which he could go to, if he felt thirsty, I also fed him only a bland diet of boiled chicken white meat and rice, mashed up nicely with no seasonings for a week , and also cottage cheese. If your dog is showing signs of drinking water, allow him to do so, also make sure u feed him only a very bland diet or the I/D diet available by prescription in the pet stores.Take good care of him and I hope he makes it thru just fine, good luck.

when my dog have parvo, the vet wanted me to either put him to sleep or pay over 1500 dollars to get him treated. IV n' stuff. so I brought parvoguard online and forced him gatorade ( nutrients/ hydate)
maybe you should try those options.

he great now. back to normal

you are just going to get opinions on here the best thing is to call teh vet and ask him.
I would figure if he is eating then he should be able to have water. the vet should be able to determine how much sub-q he needs and it's best I think for him to take on his own.
But agian the best one to ask is teh vet. My vet had told me never to give a dog pedialyte so please just call teh vetand ask tehy know the treatment he has had and what is best.
Do let them know exactly what you are doing.
