Maybe the world really is ending as quickly as we expected.

Brother Don, this is not the first time. Since 1 Jan 2000 our illustrious Representatives and Senators have voted themselves $28,500 in pay increases. This bill if passed by the Senate will add another $4,400 to that figure making it $32,900 over the last six and one-half years.

Do you know of anyone else whose pay has increased 24% over the past six year? I don't.

And that is just their base pay. They also have a per diem rate (daily food and lodging money) for the days they are in session. However, they converted that to a per annum rate and they get that money now even if they are not in Washington. So that is another $3,000 a year tacked onto their salary.

Make no mistake, for all their perceived arguing and bickering they take care of themselves first.

Erm, no, they haven't yet... They agreed, by a fairly narrow margin, in the HOUSE (not the senate yet), to not override the law which would automatically raise their pay.... The senate has yet to come anywhere near voting on it, so congress hasn't decided anything, and a 180-240 vote isn't really that notable of an agreement (there are bills that pass unanimously....)

I find myself wishing we could recall the whole darn bunch and start over. This has to be the biggest bunch of narcissistic, egomaniac, puling, pathetic, partisan pinheads that ever fooled the public into voting for them. If this crap continues much longer I fear America will soon find itself in too deep to climb out. When I see the people running for president now it just gags me. What a pathetic bunch of power hungry losers! God save these disunited states!

How many working people could have a job approval rating that the congress has and tell there boss how much of a raise they will get.(automatic unless they vote something else)

Actually, the pay raise is automatic unless they vote not to accept it. So, basically, they did nothing...pretty much business as usual.

lol, that happens all the time in Congress. The only stiff of it is, is that it won't be in effect until the next turn over, so not all of those who voted for it will benefit from it if they are not re-elected to their positions.

Its one of those checks and balances the US government has to weed out abuse.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could also vote ourselves a raise at our jobs and tell our bosses just how much money we are going to be paid, without their approval???
