I agree with the other forum members to select the wider movie adaptable screen format: 16:9. Should there be a need to show 235:1 "letterbox" DVDs, you will need an extended lower screen panel. The best overall viewing solution would be to "pass on" using a "screen" and "paint" a wall with the GooSystems.com movie paint specially formulated for the Optoma HD 70 projector. The painted image should be at least 130 inches diagonally which will accommodate both 16:9 and 4:3 formats starting with 92" to 100" images [measured diagonally]. The total cost of the GOO "Digital Grey" paint [Topcoat - 4185/Basecoat - 4179] would be $220.00 and the image is simply perfect. It's a very simple task of rolling the paint onto the wall and the instructions are simple with lots of how-to-do pictures. Check out the source section below for an actual 92-inch diagonal movie image shown on a Goo painted wall.*

To further maximize the Optoma HD 70 projector settings, you may want to rent the Disney DVD entitled "The Incredibles" which contains a special "set up" option entitled "THX Optimizer." This calibration program is often used by major movie houses to guarantee that the screen image is calibrated properly to surrounding lighting conditions. After a view minutes of adjusting your projector settings: contrast, brightness, sharpness, color and tint, you will have a home projector whose image will rival any commercial movie house.

Good luck!

You definately want 16 X 9 especially if you're going to be watching movies. Because the format of theatrical productions can be different you will still have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, but if you go 4:3 you're losing alot of the film.

Believe me, we watch alot of movies and TV on ours and you get used to the bars. In a dark room you won't even notice them anyway. Let me know how you like your projector. I almost bought this exact one before I found my Infocus IN72 on sale. Feel free to contact me anyime with any other questions.

Definitely go with 16:9. It keeps the original aspect ratio, and you should always use the native resolution when you can...although really, it's not "16:9 resolution". Resolution would be like 1280x720p, for example. I don't know what your actual projector is.

16:9 is widescreen which you need to watch most movies and 4:3 is basically a square screen

For movies you need the wide screen to get the whole effect.

You will want the 16:9.
It gives you a better viewing area and you see more of what was origionally filmed.
It's true.
If you do not believe me, just ask me!!!

I prefer the 16:9, thats my personlal opinion. A good site that carries various home theater products called http://www.better-shop.com , if you ask them what you are looking for, they will do their best to find it for you. Good Luck.

I'd go with the 4x3 otherwise 4x3 will look like a postage stamp.
