Okay, so, I have a "friend" who bought something for herself that was on my wedding registry after she saw it on there. And I'm not talking about something small. She bought the ENTIRE bedding set I had listed. Am I overreacting? Or just a little irked? Oh, and what she got us.......a picture frame!

The picture frame was not on the registry, and yes, she saw the bedding on my registry and went and got it for herself. I just happened to see it on her bed when I was at her house and she was like, "oh ya, um...ha ha" kinda uncomfortable and all. I bet she was never going to tell me about it either. Oh well. We didn't burn any bridges over it. And I didn't call her out on it, I'm better than that. I know how to choose my battles, and that one wasn't worth my time!

I don't think some people understand the question or reasoning for me asking it. I guess you just need to know this person to know why I'm asking. I'm not upset or angry over what she did, it's actually kinda funny. Her husband was pissed that she spent the money to get it for herself. Also, I wasn't expecting just one single person to buy the whole set for us. Kinda like china, one couple buys one set, someone else another, and so on. Can't people do that for pillowcases too?

You know I got married recently and the same thing happened to me. I wanted this wonderful bathrom set and it was really expensive...I told my friend about it one day at the store it was at and the next thing I know I go to her house a week later and when I go to the restroom it had everything I wanted! And she got us a "Our Wedding" photo album. I was really mad! But I got her back...she wanted this autographed photo of her favorite actor and it was on ebay. He is my favorite actor as well...I bought the damn photo and rubbed it in her face!

I think it's best to be irked. Don't go off on her because after all, you should be glad she got you something at all (it must have been tough after she spent all of her money on the bedding).

But seriously, since you're asking about etiquette, I would simply thank her for the picture frame, not mention the bedding , and then give her a picture frame for HER wedding (if it ever happens).

Hi, First off congrats have a happy life. May be your friend didn't see your weddding registry and came across the bedding set and she really liked it for her bedroom. The picture frame i bet it was a very nice one.Just be pleased that she came to your wedding and gave you a gift. Don't break up a good friendship over something like this.

Be irked, but remember there are more important things in life to fret over. If someone buys you the bedding set, exchange it for a different and possibly better set. In life you cannot let the little people get to you.

So because she's willing to buy herself a bedding set, she should buy it for you as well?

I can see why you would be a bit upset, but come on now. She saw what you wanted and liked it. Would she have bought it for you? Seeing as she bought you a picture frame, it is highly unlikely.

It is fair to be a little upset, though I would not call it rude. Afterall, don't they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

Your friend has the right to decide what to buy or not to buy for herself as long as she is spending her own money.

You should be thankful that she gave you a wedding present. She is under no obligation to do that, but she did. I don't understand why you are irked instead of appreciating her thoughtfulness.

I would take it as a compliment. If you have style many people will use your ideas, but there is nothing for you to worry about since there is plenty of innovative ideas where that came from. Right? Was the picture frame on your registry? I be it it was. So why are you mad that it was given to you?

My wife has on a number of occasions has purchased something a friend has pointed it out or seen on a wedding registry (and vice versa). She sees it as a compliment that someone would see that her tastes were good enough for them to use in their home as well. I think that just see that she purchased it as a compliment and leave it at that. Maybe pinch an idea of hers later on if you want to get even e.g. her preferred baby name and use it on your baby (if you have on first). Vindictive but only if you want

Ok, First I will say Id be really upset too. Pertically if you really really liked the bed spread. But in the the delicatly difined world of etiquette I dont think it falls in to the "rude". I think its in bad taste and little tacky. It would be rude if she delibratly did it to spite you. I dont think your over reacting. Society class is just slipping away. Take solice in the fact that a least you will probably have more fun between those sheets than she ever will, being newly weds and all ;)

I think people go a little overboard with wedding registries...most people aren't going to spend a fortune on your wedding gift, and I'm guessing the sheets weren't cheap. She just saw them, decided she liked them too, and bought them for herself. It's not a crime.
