If a combatant is near-sighted doesn't that reduce his or her combat ability when wearing glasses especially during rain or snow storms.

I wear glasses myself and during the rain it blurrs my vision and makes all lots glary.

if your eyes are that jacked up then the military wont take you. wetook a test for sight and color. but the BCG's(glasses) issued are decent..(although not pretty)

but theres no rain or snow problems in iraq anyways ;)

I wore glasses when I was in the Navy and it really didn't matter. I worked on the flight deck of the carrier as a plane captain and jet mechanic for F-14 Tomcats. When your on the flight deck you wear head protection and goggles that fit fine over your glasses, I would suggest thin wire bendable types though. Even the 20/20 people have to wear goggles during flight ops, helps to keep the crap out of your eyes not to mention jet fuel and the heat. Get stuck behind some jet exhaust, just at ideal and your eye will just water and burn, wearing goggles is a good thing.
Personally though, I would suggest getting some laser eye surgery. I got mine done 7 years ago after growing up wearing glasses. It sure does open up a entire new world for you. At least for me it did, I was almost legally blind at that point and now, 20/20.

Yes, glass's do cause some problems.

Thats why all 4 services now offer PRK eye surgery to war fighters.

Sand storms make it almost impossible to wear contacts and glass's are easily broken.

Specially made glasses must be issued to soldiers who are near-sighted. It is for their welfare and effectiveness in combat.
