i've had zits for a while but havent been using a medicated face wash for quite a bit. i've been using a wash with salicylic acid for a week now and i find that i'm breaking out a bit more. i did some research and all the articles indicate that salicylic acid is used to slough off dead skin cells and to clean pores but if stopped, acne will persist and benzoyl peroxide kills the bacteria but causes some skin irritation. the articles also say that the two shouldn't be used together but do not say why.

It over dries you skin and might cause redness or rashes. It's best just to use one at a time. You might try alternating every few days to get the benefits of both.
