After the flood all the water had to go somewhere and if the water cycle is true, which it is , then that would mean the water evaporated and went up into the clouds and then it condensated and then would come back down agian as persipatation and this world keep go for ever and ever and since there is not enough water in the world to cover all the land, I dont think the great flood happened, at least at the same time all over the world.

There was a larger than normal flooding season in the Middle East in ancient times. It sparked a multitude of legends about "angry gods" in the cultures of the area.

That's it.

There is one theory that suggests the oceans didn't exist or they were much lower than they are today. All of the water was contained as humidity in the atmosphere (or at least a large part of it.)

Some astronomical event caused the moisture to condense, rain for days and then after whatever the time was (140 days?) the waters subsided and Noah was able to find dry land.

One part of this theory is that a rainbow is the sign that the earth will never be flooded like that again. (Earth's baptism). Seeing a rainbow requires light to shine from behind into moisture or rain. If there was so much moisture in the air prior to the flood, the sun would not have been able to penetrate the clouds to create a rainbow. Additionally, there were people who lived to be hundreds of years old. If this were really true, it could be that the clouds blocked ultraviolet light, slowing down the aging process.

The next event in store for the earth will be it's burning (Confirmation). We know the earth's atmosphere is warming and I read very recently that we estimate Mar's atmosphere is also warming, indicating that the earth's warming may have nothing to do with greenhouse gasses and everything to do with the Sun getting hotter.

If that is the case, the Bible prophecy of the earth burning could certainly happen.

No one knows any of these things for sure, but there is enough evidence, theory and the possibility of those theories that I find it interesting.

I doubt that the Biblical Deluge story was 100% accurate, but I think it is possible that a massive flood took place that affected many cultures all around the globe. There are a lot of cultures that have global flood stories.

At the end of the last ice age, about 9,000 - 11,000 years ago, North America had a huge ice sheet over its northern half. Some scientists, (real scientists - not creationists in lab coats), have speculated that as the ice sheet melted, a large body of water ended up trapped behind a sort of ice dam. Then, when this dam broke, huge amounts of water spilled into the ocean.

Another hypothesis that was recently published is that the ice sheet over North America was hit but a rather large asteroid. (This is based on a layer of sediment in widely separated samples that is composed of materials commonly seen in asteroids.) Again, this could result in a sudden, violent release of large volumes of water into the oceans.

If you look at a bathymetric map of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, you will see that there is a rather huge gouge in the ocean floor. It looks to me as if there was a rather violent movement of a large volume of water through that area. You don't really see channels quite that large at the mouths of other large rivers. Here is a bathymetric map of that gulf, (halfway down the page):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Saint_Lawrence

Its known that the ocean levels rose about 100 meters at the end of the last ice age, and that many areas were permanently flooded. The above theories indicate that this could have been a very sudden flooding.

Also, with this volume of water suddenly being dumped into the ocean, you are going to get a lot of water sloshing up on the continents as huge tidal waves. The asteroid theory could have caused huge amounts of ice to be vaporized as well, causing huge global rain storms.

You would not have enough water from this event to cover the highest mountains, or to cover the whole Earth for 40 days, but in some regions, survivors may not have seen land for quite some time.

Several of the deluge stories of various cultures talk of people surviving by climbing high mountains. Of course, these stories only exist in areas where high mountains exist. The Hebrews were from a pretty flat area, so any records left from their ancestors probably would have led them to believe that there was no land above water.

One other point, during the last ice age the climate was drier, (because a lot of the water was in ice form). Thus, any civilizations that existed at that time were likely to be in low lying areas. The most water would have been in low lying areas, (water flows downhill after all), so that's were the population centers would be, (people need water). Unfortunately, since the ocean level rose about 100 meters, all of the heavily populated areas would have been mostly wiped out - permanently. Remains of man-made structures have been found in extremely deep waters. The Black Sea contains ancient buildings that are so deep that they were preserved by the lack of oxygen at that depth.

It filled the oceans of today, created ice caps, and filled the remaining subterranean chambers. This is also when today's water cycle began.

Now the question is were did the water come from.

There are two theories.

One is the canopy theory, it simply states that there was a layer of ice some where in the atmosphere and that protected earth from harm-full radiation.

Second is all the water was in subterranean chambers. This is more biblical and the one I hold to.

first of the bible says that the foundations of the deep were opened up. and if you knew a lick of science you would know that we have under ground rivers and even oceans. 2nd the there was a canopy of water up above or heads in the sky. (kinda like a ocean of water) to say that that is crazy would be to deny the same fact that clouds don't hold water. so we see here that we have to water sources. which created this world wide flood. and to say that there is not enough water to flood the world now is just plain ignorant. there are many places in the ocean that are deeper then the heights of MT. Everest. ( pardon my spelling!!) and one other thing the earth was not the same back then , as it is now. there was one big land mass sa there is now but no oceans separating them before. you can read this story in the bible in Genenis 6-9. ne more guest email me

Go back and read Genesis again. Not only does it say that it rained, it also says that the fountains of the deep were opened. That is, water underneath the ocean floor was released. In the last decade or so, scientists have discovered that there are vast amounts of water under the ocean floor. Some estimate as much as 10x more under the ocean floor than on top.

The great flood is part of an ensemble of very interesting stories filled with folklore, philosophy, and adventure written by our ancient ancestors. These people had no notions about science, physics, earth science, geology, meteorology, but in their simplistic ways they earnestly tried to explain natural phenomenon. We now know that water doesn’t unexpectedly seep up, change it’s form for no apparent reason, or is created out of nothing, therefore intelligent people now enjoy and appreciate these stories out of antiquity for what they are….wonderful stories!

The Biblical description of the world and the atmosphere reveals that the oceans were made as a result of the flood.
