I will be taking a trip to New Zealand and the plane ride total will be 2 hours to an airport, then a layover, 2 hours to another airport, then a layover, and 12 hours to New Zealand. I need some fun ways to pass the time.

If you happen to have a laptop, charge it, and bring it. You can play some standard card games or if you happen to have anything like a flight simulator, bring that. It is amusing to do stunts in an artificial airplane while being in a real one.

A lot depends on what you find fun and interesting, but I would suggest books, puzzles, perhaps your laptop, and maybe a portable music device.
Many of the long flights will have movies, and you might just plan to watch whatever is showing. 12 hours is a long haul but I once spent 15 and a half hours on an airplane and my main occupation was watching Alaskan scenery while it was available to see.
