On the one hand,I've learned that a few atheists seem to enjoy insulting believers for the sake of it.

I've seen believers been called brainwashed','delusional','irrational','morons','illogical' and numerous other things.Something that amuses me about this is with their insults, they automatically render themselves illogical with their uses of ad hominem arguments.

On the other hand,I have met some wonderful atheists, and even though we disagree, and even have heated debates,we respect each other. We don't fly off the handle. No one thinks that they are inherently superior or of greater intelligence simply because of their religiosity.

I suspect that the same factions can be found in nearly every belief system.

My friend's boyfriend is an atheist and he is one of the most wonderful people I know . We can talk about the faith stuff even though it is very clear that he does not believe in deity. I have learned a lot of things from him. All atheists are not like him. He would just refuse to say insults and rude comments of people other faiths.

I learned that not all believers are close-minded; those that are close-minded make the rest look bad. However, I have learned that most believers are firm on their beliefs and will stand by them. A few are open to actually read our answers and respect our answers. Some make valid points even though I disagree with them.

I did not know any atheists at all until I started participating here. I learned that it is certainly logical to not believe in the existence of a supreme deity. Especially that biblical monster. I learned that I like many of them very much. I have learned so much from them, especially about evolution. I always knew it was true but I had did not know very much about it. Like the common ancestor. I did not know that until a year ago.

truthfully: I have met some nice ones who emailed me 2 of them. and some fair open mined ones.
but maybe 6 who emailed get angry and call me ignorant , brainwashed etc. not showing any respect for what we hold sacred. and quite a few who think if you don't believe like them your a idiot, which confounded me because I thought atheist were suppose top be open minded.
but I enjoy all their comments and try to be open minded to them.
can't judge the whole bunch by a few sour apples.
I'm sure they can say the same about Christans, were all just humans.

Religion has started more wars than anything or anyone else. I can't help but to agree with that 100%. The truth is, there are facts to back that statement up. islam, front and center! But while islam doesn't care who knows what wars they have started, others like the catholic church try to keep it all hush, hush.

The only thing I hope atheist will understand is, religion is not Christianinty. There is a differents.

A man left the catholic church and wrote a book about it (below)

I am an Atheist my parents are believers..

I learned many many many things from my parents, the most important being question everything and don't stop until you get an answer that satisfies you.. (My guess is they didn't think I would apply the concept to religion)

I learned that believers are often very determined, hard-working and eager to help (in whatever way they think best). Though I don't agree with their beliefs, I understand that most are ultimately trying to help other people. I also give some of them props for resisting many natural urges (sex before marriage, stealing, lying, etc.).

Almost every atheist that I have ever met has been more concentrated on proving my belief wrong that they often forget about making a constructive discussion. I have often wondered why atheists think as they do, but have been unable to find one that will explain/help me to understand without bashing my beliefs.

Takada, you are a perfect example of that kind of bigotry. you seem to want everyone to think exactly as you do, and that can get dangerous. I respect everyone's right ot think as they will, but I don't appreciate it when others such as yourself try to infringe on my right to do the same. You need to cool your jets.
