Skipping breakfast slows down your metabolism in general, not just till lunch. Morning is the time when your body is asking for energy. If you're not eating, it decides that things are really bad and it's starvation time, and slows down the metabolism to make sure you stay alive longer. Naturally, you feel tired and move slower.
You need to eat good-size breakfast. Tiny breakfast is still considered starvation by your body. A bowl of cereal or a bagel with tea is a good breakfast, 3 raisins is not a good breakfast. I like a cup of low fat yogurt and a fruit, and perhaps a slice of bread or some wheat crackers that I find in my cup board.
It's the dinner that you want to cut the calories from.

It is true that if you skip breakfast your metabolism won't start up until later in the day (it will slow your metabolism down). Also, it does not matter how much you eat (within reason of course) in the morning as long as you eat something. But it is best to eat lots in the morning and not so much at night.

Your metabolism is the process that breaks down food for energy. It's going to work whether you eat breakfast or not. It just won't work as well. Your liver can only store 6-7 hours worth of glucose so after sleeping 8 hrs, you need to eat breakfast containing carbohydrates. You also should eat protein and some fat in your breakfast. You can live for several months without food, but I wouldn't recommend it since you may damage your health. Your body will tear down your muscles for protein.

You don't have to eat much, eat like half a whole grain bagel and that's enough to get the digestive process going. Also if you don't eat breakfast you blood sugar level drops and you crave sugar which is not good for you.

your food is your method of getting metabolism... so yea, you need it. If your trying to lose weight you have to remmeber that breakfast IS THE MOST important meal of your day....

yep, that's why if you eat breakfast you're hungry for lunch sooner than if you don't, because your body has some momentum going and it wants more food.
