Ok.....VERY simple fix here. First FORGET THE WATER BOTTLES this can cause phobias in some dogs (and a wet messy floor too....) I'd also like to know what a muzzle is supposed to teach a dog (referring to the person who said that) *sigh*.
Ok, getting back to the easy fix.........how often do you WALK this dog? I'm betting not very often, I'm betting you think just letting it out in the backyard for a romp is enough, even if you have a BIG yard :) I offer you a challenge......walk the dog 30-45 min. preferrably twice a day....and see if your problem doesn't get better. (make SURE you use sunscreen with this breed or walk it early in AM or late in PM) Hold the leash so that the dog is NOT out infront of you.
As far as the snapping at the kidlet goes......walking may help this as it relieves pent of frustration, but also keep a leash on the dog so that you can CONTROL it when your neice is around. IF the dog growls or snaps give a firm NO! and snap the leash for correction (don't overdo it tho as toy/small breeds have sensitive throats & can damage trachia). Say it like you mean it....a SHARP firm (but not overly loud or harsh) NO! Not "fee fee...no." or "fee fee...nnnoooooooooooooo......" Make it sharp, deep toned, to the point.
Try these two things for a few weeks.....I think you see lots of improvement. But only if you commit, if you only walk the dog a few days out of the week.....forget it. Gotta be everyday or at the very least....5-6 days a week.
PS........debarking a dog does not make it "silent" lol......they CAN still make noise, it's just somewhat quieter.

I've had the same problem with barking in my yellow lab. What I did was train him with a muzzle. People say it's mean and cruel, but vets and trainers use it all the time and it does no harm at all. What you do is buy a muzzle that will fit your dog (most muzzles have breeds listed for easier fitting), and then you just put the muzzle on each time the dog barks. You leave it on for about five to ten minutes each time, making sure to scold the dog before putting it on. After awhile the dog will recognize the muzzle and will instantly stop barking when shown the muzzle (at least my dog did). My dog now even knows what the word muzzle means and all I have to do is threaten him with the word muzzle and he shuts right up! Hope this helps! The muzzle can also be used with the snapping. The worst thing to have in a dog is aggression towards children! The things you have to remember when using the muzzle is to be consistent with it (no slacking off with barking), scold before placing it on the dog, and to reward the dog with praise of words when it doesn't bark.

You could totally watch Cesar Millan he had one show where he stopped a little chi chi from barking at everybody and everything and stopped its snapping at the owners bf. It was really cool. You can get his DVDs on EBay.
Other then that pick your dog up and turn it on its back (it will hate this) and hold it there until it stops trying to turn back over.... this is a submissive position and by doing this you are showing it that you are the boss. If you don't want to do this.. you could each time it starts barking grab its muzzle with your fingers and say "shhht" kinda sounds like a bad word but it will just mean shut up to her. Good luck:)
P.S. The debarking another person mentioned earlier is a surgical procedure and a lot of vets will not do it unless its absolutely necessary in their opinion.

do something that is called debarking it....i have read about it online...its said to make it so the dog will go through the motions of barkking...(opening up his mouth...turning his head up..ext.) but no noise can be herd... as for the snapping...if its an old dog thats just how they are and you shouldnt dicepline them for it...they are old and have zero patence for children...but if its young...you should scold it when it snaps at him. DO NOT USE A SQUIRT BOTTLE that is crule and mean and how would you like it if you were just trying to tell people that you saw/herd something and your curious about it and your best friend that your life depends on came and was squirting you all the time?! dogs dont connect making all that noise with you squirting them...it mean. as goes for the muzzle...thats just AWFUL!! there is no reason what so ever you should EVER even condsider putting a muzzle on a dog!!

so does my dog.. Mini Schnauzer Male 2yr old.
I tried all kinds of methods: watering, keeping him away from corridor, muzzle, caning, but nothing can win over him.
I'm now looking for other methods such as the electric collar or debarking.
but be patience to your dog, correct him each time. I;m the mean owner in my family. So now every time he barks and I stood up and go to him, he will stare at me n start running away (but barking still).
meanwhile u got any ideas, do keep in touch.

These dogs are temperamental and don;t do good around kids . they are usually with older adults or someone that has no kids,, As for the barking every ;little dog i have ever seen barks a lot.maybe you should take her to the vet for a check-up as they do have lots of health problems....ask the vet about what to do for the snapping around kids...lots of luck some people say to squirt the dog ; but that will make it worse and make him scared, these dogs have breathing problems so a muzzle is out of the question ; unless you want to kill it... Please take him to a vet asap as that;s who can tell you what sickness is making him bark as he is in pain..

Get a squirt bottle and squirt him when he barks. Or watch the Dog Whisperer and learn.

try spraying water in her face. if that doesn't work try to get something that makes a loud noise. by doing that it will get her attention and it should make her stop barking. the nipping i would try to make her lay down next to him and don't let her move until she realizes that your cousin wont hurt her.

squirt bottle, and shoot her every time she barks, if that doesn't work I know there are collars you can buy. There is also a surgery to stop the from barking, sounds a little cruel to me though, you would be taking away their voice.
