Only productive physical effort produces works of material subatance. However, the nature of the work to be produced must first be based on belief in a concept that the work can be achieved and that there will be a benefit. That would be the faith of a sane person.
The Apostle James would have made a great engineering manager. Martin Luther did not like what James wrote. He would have been soon bankrupt in any other enterprise than a religion.

I think one need only look at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel to know that faith does produce works. Of course, it produces wars and hatred as well as nice paintings, so it's kind of a double-edged sword.
