I had the interior of my medial meniscus removed do to severe knee pain a few years back. I did not start running again after the surgery. Has anyone had good luck training and distance running after having this type of surgery? I believe I have about 70% of my meniscus remaining.

And if so - any tips!

Personally, ralph, I have not had the surgery or suffered from any meniscus problems (yet). I have had many back problems but I do in fact know someone that underwent meniscus surgery on both knees. It took him around 3-4 months minimum to get fully recovered and back to running, but he by all means continued running. One tip, don't rush recovery...he tried so after both surgeries and had to take a couple extra weeks off. I'm sure you have a sports doctor advising you, so listen to what they have to say. Good luck though. Don't let anything keep you from running!
