Is it possible to have a stainless steel revolver such as S&W model 619 blued? The only finish available was and still is SS but I prefer the look of blue . Would it be possible to use one those cold blue kits or would it need to be done by a pro with a hot blue method?

Stainless will not take 'blue' because the blue surface is actually a type of corrosion or rust....and of course stainless don't rust.

Now, you can use a very durable product called Duracoat. It may be a little pricier but you can go for any color or camo immaginable.

Also, you can take your revolver to a good sandblasting and beadblasting guy and he can make that stainless have a very dull satin finish that looks sorta like titanium.

You can try but as pointed out, it does not work very well.

Also the second you touch any gun in an attempt to refinish it, you chop off at least $100 in value. If you never plan on selling the gun, it does not matter but keep it in mind.

I would suggest you place an add to TRADE guns. Someone with a similar gun that is blued might want to trade for a stainless steel model. You both get what you want without messing up the guns.

DJ is spot on having the revolver media blasted to reduce it's reflection and luster is a good Idea.
