There is no set age for a parent to allow a child to stay home alone. All kids develop, mentally and in maturity, at different rates. So, if the child can prove that he or she can be independent and safe enough to stay home alone then that is the time they should be allowed to. I could stay home alone when i was about 10 but my younger sister was 12 before she could. It just depends on the child and the parent's rules.

Legally the age is 12 to be alone and 14 to be in charge of other children. But it depends on the kids! My oldest took babysitting classes, CPR and first aid when she was 12 and I allowed her to babysit after school for her brother who was 8 and then last year when she was 16 the other 2- 8 and 10 years old were also home after school.
My son who will soon be 13 is a great and responsible babysitter and watches his younger sisters on some of the days. He also babysits for my nephews on occasion for an afternoon.

10 or 11 by that age the child should have confidence in the parent that they are trustworthy. but this age shoud only be if it is for an hour or less. and the parent is easily accesable.

some times it doesnt matter on the age! it mostly matters on if u feel that they are responsible for themselves, they know the nubers to call if an emergency, and knows how to feel themselves, cook for them selves and thats pretty much all that you need to worry about! but if u are going to try this for the first time with your child then try not to leave them for too long for the fisrt couple of times! maybe 3hours at the most but then when u feel more comfortable then extend the time little-by-little!
good luck!!!!!
hope u make the right decitions!!!!

If you can trust the kid try 13 but if you can't, maybe 15 or even 17 if you really need to go that far.
