If I refuse to fight anyone and call myself a grandmaster...?

even if I get my butt kicked all the time because I wont fight back will people believe me?

I guess it depends on the system. I don't know of any grandmaster that would fight. They like to fall back on there it is for self defense only or it's more than that. Sure, your a grandmaster at avoidance. Regardess of how I may be taken by most, I would avoid a fight if I could. Who cares if you call yourself a grand master, only those who would be threatened by your statement would be upset.

The answer is yes. In America, there are very few accountable martial artists. Many claim to be ranks higher than they were, or to be some master in the Orient's "#1 Student" or to have won the all Japan Kumite Tournament at a White Belt! There's just no honor in this kind of lie, and nobody holds so called "grandmasters" accountable.

why would you advertise the fact that you are a grandmaster and not back YOURSELF up? Humility is an important virtue in martial arts, so no people will not believe you. You shouldn't believe yourself unless you are indeed a grandmaster, and stop telling people you are if you have nothing to prove. You will be doing yourself a favor plus you will be saving face. Eventually I suppose! However they won't believe you are a master of martial arts. A master nevertheless..... eventually..... If you can maintain your perspective on this and endure I would believe you! Eventually....
