i have family in prison so i have been dealing with collect calls for a long time. first you need to call your cell phone company and tell them what happened to stop any crazy charges that might show up. they should also be able to see the number that is calling you and tell you what you can do to block it. people in prison CAN NOT make phone calls at 2:30 am. when people call from prison it's always a recording that says this is ??? with a collect call from ??? who is an inmate in ???. it always gives you the option of accepting, refusing and blocking the calls. it should give you a phone number to call also if you have any questions.
first and foremost though, you need to contact your cell phone company and explain what happened. have you googled the number to see what comes up? also, only on a very very rare occasion, can a collect call get through on a cell phone. hope this helps.

Don't ever accept a collect call unless the caller has been identified as someone you know; either a friend or family member. If these nuisance calls continue, you should file a police report with your local police department. You can also contact your cellphone carrier to inform them that you're receiving harassing calls, which subsequently may result in them offering to change your number. Make sure that you are very clear that you do not consent to any charges by your cell phone carrier for the number change, as there shouldn't be a charge in your predicament.
If changing your number is not an option for you and you continue to receive harassing telephone calls, a police report will ensure that you can get a subpoena, although filing a report doesn't guarantee that you will get a subpoena. Cellular telephone carriers will not reveal the harasser's identity without a subpoena.
Hopefully these nuisance calls will cease, as it sounds like whoever is calling you (whether an individual or fraudulent business) is pulling a total scam.
You should also visit www.donotcall.gov to list your cell phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry.

You need to call this prison and speak with whom ever is in charge and let this person know exactly what this person has done and I promise you that it will not happen again, also did you know that they will do this and you will not realize that you have given them an easy way to charge calls to your phone, do not ever accept a call from an inmate regardless of the situation you will probably be charged for all types of calls you have to be careful and don't think that just because you accept a call to tell them to stop calling you that they will, these are prisoners and don't care about anything.
This inmate probably knew that if he continued to call you would finally accept and this is exactly what he wanted. Please call the prison and if you are charged for any calls they will deduct it off of your bill but if you choose not to persue it then you will be stuck with this bill if this prisoner did make calls on your number, so be careful and good luck with everything but DON?T accept any more calls!!!!

Calling a cell phone in jail requires them to pay for the call. You won't be charged anything. Probably someone who thinks they are phoning someone they know. Since you answered it & they hung up, they probably have realized they have the wrong number. No worries, you are cool.

Call your phone company and ask how to get the number blocked. I know that I heard on CNN last week that there are scams being run from prisons on phishing scams-getting people's personal info. You shouldn't deal with this or give any info out to these people who are calling.

Call your local police department and speak to a detective. You need to file a report. If something seems fishy, it usually is, so protect yourself. You may need a police report now as documentation of this in case anything happens after accepting the call. But talk to the police.

You will be charged for the call you accepted and they are not usually cheap. Just block the number.

If you're certain you know no one in jail, don't accept. could have been a wrong number---accepting will cost you about $4 if you need to satisfy your curiousity. It may be someone you know who you are not aware of being in jail.
