Neo (the hero) - short for "neocon"?
Save Zion - support Israeli expansion in the middle east?

Okay, maybe not subliminal but psychologically suggestive?

I would hope so.

Whoever is not against us, is for us.

As G-d's chosen people, I would gladly lay down my life for Isreal.

For as the Son came about through the Father,
So did Christianity come about through Isreal.

It has a lot of religious imagery, from Christian (including Gnostic), Buddhist, Rastafarian and other sources, as well as other philosophical traditions. None of it is subliminal, all of it is visible and most of it has been studied. You can find some of my own writings on the subject as well as those of others at http://blue.butler.edu/~jfmcgrat/sci-fi/ There have been whole books published on The Matrix and Philosophy.

neo is an annagram for "one" as in "the one."
"Zion" is just a cool name.
The movie is antiauthoritarian in general and its message is that there is no freedom without freedom of the mind. It is more about how the state controls people's minds in general than it is about any particular political situation.
In fact conservatives are made fun of at several points in the movies.

Subliminal no. Blatant use of the concept of Zionism.

A small group of true humans (with savior/messiah and all) working against the "machine" beast who has a hoard of human drones and evolved programs.

Quite obvious from the beginning.

Oh please. Its. A. Movie. And not all that great a movie at that. And one that nobody's even talking about now. And if it did, so what - Israel needs all the help it can get against the jackals in the Middle East constantly trying to destroy it.

No, 'Neo' means 'new' and is an anagram of 'one' (as in 'The One'.)

'Zion' - Just another religious-sounding name, like 'Morpheus' or 'Trinity'.
