I mean, I have a hard time believing that Imam Shamil is mentioned in the Torah when he didn't exist at the time. He was born in 1797.

Okay, so now I know what chabad is. What does it have to do with this article on Imam Shamil? Is he a war hero to the Chassidim?

Obviously, it is the same person. Since it describes a warrior leader from tribes in the Caucasus, it can only be Imam Shamil. There is no other character in history that could possibly be this man except for Imam Shamil. I wanted to know what it is about him that is appreciated by the Chassidim.

So because the Shamil in the story has the same name as your imam...your logic says they are the same person....riiight....

Chabad is an Hassidic evangelistic movement to encourage Jews to practice full Orthodox observance. I don't think that it has anything with any imam or any Muslim leader.
