I was in the Army from 1991 to 1995. When I was in Basic Training the D.S. yelled at you in your face. I don't know if they still do this or not, because I have heard that Basic is real easy now. We never got woken up at 2 A.M. to go running. We did have to get up around 4 or 4:30 A.M. to do Physical Training.
A typical day is wake up at 4:00 A.M. you have about 10 to 15 minutes to go to the bathroom, wash you face or whatever you do in the morning. Go down to formation do P.T. for about an hour and a half to 2 hours. Go back to the barracks, shower and change into your BDU's. Go to breakfast. Usually after breakfast you go to a class (indoors or outdoors) or you do some kind of training, land navigation, weapons training, First aid, drill and ceremonies, etc. go to lunch. After lunch more training or classroom. Eat dinner, back to the barracks, mail call. You might have an hour before lights out, go to bed around 10 or 11 pm. Sometimes the D.S's throw in some little surprises, if you piss them off. They might make you do some flutter kicks or push ups. Hope this gives you some insight.

I was in the Army and no you don't get up at two in the morning you get up between 5 or 5:30. Drill Seargants don't typically get in your face you really have to piss them off in order for them to do that. And you only run during PT which happens before breakfast once PT is over you eat breakfast when your done you go back to the bay get cleaned up a little put away your excersise mat and change into you BDU's ( battle dress uniform) you'' go back down and you'll really start your day. There are three phases in basic red white and blue phase. Red phase is introduction paper work victory tower and you get your weapons towards the end of red phase. White phase is weapon qualification you'll learn how to take apart your weapon and clean it then you'll go to the shooting range and learn how to load it and shoot it. White phase is all about your weapon. Blue phase is the shortest phase i believe it's grenade qualification. Then it's victory forge. I don't know what branch your goin to but that was Army basic training 9 weeks.

Boot Camp is different for each branch of service, The Air Force has the most relaxed boot camp with recruits getting up about 730 a.m. and training is usually over by 430 p.m.
The Army and Navy has instituted a time out card in their training, if you start feeling over stressed, you get a 15 minute time out from being yelled at. Both of these branches still have long training hours.
The Marine Corps has the most physically and mentally harden training with long hours. Most of time in the first few weeks of training one gets up at 5 and training last until 8 or 9 p.m.
I wish you the best, and thank you for honoring all the prior military people that have sacrificed for our country.

It all depends on what branch of service you go into. from my experience in the air force yes they do yell at you and yes they do wake you up at all hours of the night. also for the first 3 or so weeks you get about 30 seconds to eat each meal. but this is all part of the breaking down process so that they can build you back up. at the time i hated it but looking back i can see why they do it it makes you a stronger person. don't let boot camp influence your decision to join the armed services. i had a great time looking back on all my time spent in the military including boot camp.

well you wake up around 5:50 in the morning and then they start playing games with you like they make you make your rack (bed) for about 30 minutes then you'll spend another 30 minutes putting your socks (taking them on and off) then another 30 getting dress again and again then you'll go to chow and come back to get anihilated in the sandbox because you were late to chow (when it was the DI's fault because the ywere playing games with you but they blame on you anyway) and then after that there is a training schdule where they gotta give you 8 hours of sleep besides special events like the crucible (marines) and stuff like that but besides the yelling and the DI's that drink milk and smoke a cigarette and then yell at you 1 inch away from your face and being quarterdecked its not really that bad

You will quickly learn "there are 3 ways of doing things, the right way, the wrong way and the Army way."
The main objective of basic is to teach you how to function surrounded by confusion and chaos. For them to teach you anything less would mean they failed.
The further you get beyond basic, the more you will understand.
I remember starting basic, our Platoon Sgt was army , airborne, and our collective feeling was, "WE'RE F###D!?
He demanded a lot. A lot! But as we moved thru basic, we felt we had the best Platoon Sgt in the Army. and he demanded we be the best trainees in the Army.We wanted to be the best, not because we were afraid of him, but he taught us we could be the best if we wanted to, And soon we felt, it wasn't worth being less than the best.
There's a smple way to sum this up. PRIDE!

You worst day in USAF Basic Training will ALWAYS be better than your best day in Army, USMC, or USN boot camp.
Make sure you're joining the right branch or the next 4 years of you life will really suck.

depends on the branch of military- i was in the marines & yes they do yell & get in your face but they are not aloud to touch you in any way- 1 of our dis accidentally stepped on a recruits foot & apologized- its not as bad as non military people think it is- i actually loved it! & would absolutely do it again & we were never woke up in the middle of the night to run- you get up at 6/a get dressed, eat chow, pt, drill, chow, drill, square away time(free time) shower, bed @ 9/p
