about a year ago i had surgery for a torn meniscus where they just took out some loose cartilage. i've done physical therapy and everything, and i can run/ exercise okay. but after i jump a lot (in volleyball) it hurts a little/feels sore afterward, and i just want to know, can i be damaging it if i run regularly? i really want to run but what is the likelyhood of having a problem again?

I'd ask your doctor what he thinks but doing anything that causes you more pain is probably not helping. Running is hard on the joints in general, the safest excercise for people with knee problems is cycling, might want to give that a try and give your knee a break.

as a fellow active sportsman, suffering from my own share of injuries...don't ruin your knees of all things. Once they go, the rest of you goes along with it. You know that with sports injuries if its sore or hurts, that probably means something isn't right. The meniscus is a relatively small piece of tissue so if you tear/damage it entirely, it won't ever be the same. Pushing your body to with damaged tissue always runs the risk of doing more damage. Your body is a machine and has parts that can break or slow it down...Take it easy, unless you get paid millions of dollars to run around on it.

You should really ask a doctor or if you have any friends going for physical therapy they might be able to tell you what you should do for exercises. You should probably shift to doing more upper body work outs for now, until you get advice from a PT or doctor.

This is a mental health forom; you would probably get a better answer in the General Health category.

ask your doctor first and rehab persons before doing anything with it. surgery is painful the second time around aside for being expensive and time consuming.
