I have been a Bank Of America customer since 1997 and it is a very good bank. They do have actual free checking account. Not really free unless you sign up for direct deposit from your employer or you pay a bill online. Also, they have a keep the change program. So it is the best bank. I used to bank at Wells Fargo and they charge fees to maintain the accounts.

RE:
Why would you choose Bank of America?
Not sure if I should open an account there or not. My mom thinks I should.

I would not choose B of A. I would not choose Wells Fargo either. Why not try Bank of the West or Washington Mutual. Oops! I said Bank of the West and I don't know if you are in California. Look into everything the bank has to offer. That is ATM fees, interest rates, penalties, etc and see which one is the best for you.

Use to work there...they have free checking as long as you have I think $100...there are also alot of other banks that offer free checking...the do not offer free ATM usage like other banks...Compass offers to reimburse you if you use another bank's atm...shop around...some offer you $50 or more if you open an account and keep a minimum in the account for 60 days or so...

I have an account and with Bank of America. They really look after their customers. They have excellent credit cards and they give generous credit limits. The banking service and their benefits are great.

BoA does have a few upsides like national access to its ATMs and banks. But they are pretty harsh about YOUR money. For instance my hubby accidentally double clicked to transfer OUR money from OUR savings into OUR checking. We only had the amount in savings that we were transferring, but because he double clicked BoA transfered that amount into OUR checking from OUR savings twice instead of realizing that it was an accident or saying "Hey. No way we are gonna transfer xx amount of $ cause you only have x amount of $" They charged us an overdraft fee! dont go with BoA. I agree with others. Find a credit union. They have much lower initial deposits to open accounts and are much more friendly Also, people please stop being so rude to this person. They posted "bank or credit union". If you want to help, the JUST help. Maybe they dont have much experience. How about a simple BoA is a bank to be helpful. No need for putdowns :) be nice

Excellent customer service. They have the nicest people working there. They are so helpful. They look out for you.
Good deals. They have good deals on checking accounts, loans, savings accounts, and all kinds of things. They don't try to screw you over with fees and interest and stuff.
Great Bank. Highly recommend.

I just opened one at Bank of America and I love it. I got that keep the change accout where every time I use my debit card, it rounds up to the next dollar and puts the change in my savings. Then at the end of the month they match what you saved. I already saved like $80 without doing anything. I love it, you should do it.
