Hi! My 12 week old puppy's eyes are a little red and she does have some tear staining. I took her to the vet and he said she could possibly have allergies. Should I be more concerned?

I have 3 toy poodles that get irritated eyes when the pollen is high or it's really dusty outside. I use an optical eyewash every evening & that really helps. I've also used visine, a drop in each eye, to calm irritated eyes. You should clean them at least once a day to avoid infection or the chance that she'll scratch them. If you notice a yellow drainage, get her in to the vet because she may need some antibiotic ointment to treat them.

You want to be very careful in threat a puppy's allergies.
Especially if the vet recommends putting her on steroids. Steroids in immature dogs can cause her to have unusually large growth.

Try washing her eyes out with saline soulution. You can get it at WalMart in the contact lense area. It will be safe to rinse her eyes out with it.

That should help with the tearing....

Did your vet recommend that you do anything to help her?

I might get another opinion. If your pup has allergies, you might want to see if a food change helps.
