Hello,

I am not a girl but these marriage contracts ultimately in North America come under the jurisdiction of the state or province; not the church, synagogue or mosque.

In my province of Alberta you can get a marriage contract as a women or man but as my lawyers advised they are often not worth the paper they are written on since the judge in any litigation has the right to alter or change the contract at his or her descretion if it is deemed or seems to be unfair to one party. In short you may be wasting 500 dollars.

Regards,

Michael

Islam considers a valid marriage contract as having an exchange of words (e.g. offer and acceptance), 2 witnesses whose witnessing is considered valid. According to some scholars the woman who is over 18 lunar years of age can conduct her own marriage contract, fulflling the other conditions.

Your money stays your money when you get married.

If you had mentioned a dowry in your marriage contract, the husband has to give you it upon divorce if he didn't give you it already.

If he divorcs his wife without a reason from her, he needs to also give her an additional gift which they agree upon.

Marriage is not a contract. It is a covenant. Writing a contract for a marriage is just planning for failure, which greatly increases the likelihood that failure is what you will end up with. You don't enter marriage to "see if it will work out". It won't! You enter marriage with absolute and unconditional commitment to devoting your entire life to working it out. And if you do that, you won't be in need of any contract.

if we want to get married in the church i attend..we have to go to singles and marriage counseling..and one of the requirements is to write what we want from a spouse everything from financial needs to sex(not great detail about the sex...lol)...i wouldn't call it a contract though. the contract is when you actually say "i do" your questions also sound like a "will"

I think my church sees this as one of those "render unto Cesar what is Cesar's" things. While divorce is certainly not encouraged, these are all legal matters, and we are free to deal with them in the legal realm as we will.
